Congrats on the sale! $886.99 with 10 bidders and 26 bids looks very healthy.

I've had a warm welcome here and no one has taken me to task for asking dumb questions so far. So here goes.

What?? Cert # shows PCGS Price Guide Value as $18. Coinfacts shows some 2013 sales at $50 - 60. Am I making an obvious mistake?

So is this down to the toning? This is what can happen when a few people go after a coin for personal reasons? These are not dealers bidding, surely?

Or is there just something about the coin that isn't reflected in Coinfacts? Something that came to light recently?

I definitely need to understand what happened here. I mean 50 - 100% above the Guide... okay. 3x the guide... wow, but okay. But this? The one that sold for $50 looks perfect to me

Tradernik, This is solely due to the toning. Natural toning patterns are usually like fingerprints. You won't find another identical. I sold a 1984 Olympic commemorative earlier this year for over 900. IMO, it is a dangerous game to play with your money. The folks that are reproducing toned products artificially have become very good. Good enough to get them past the PCGS grading room. I have sold all of my toned except for a few because of this.

I don't know what to say except...holy smokes. That's an eye-popping premium. It's an amazing coin of course. I'm not even saying it's not worth $890. Just amazed at the premium over book.

People will pay up for attractive toning.

Chech out this Morgan Dollar that GreatCollections sold in 2015. PCGS Price Guide values the coin at $140.

    ....

Okay, I guess it'll seem a bit melodramatic if I try to convey what I'm experiencing at this moment. 'Are you kidding me' somehow just doesn't quite say it. 'Utter shock' comes closer.

Getting ready for the GA auction tomorrow. Tracking prices, reviewing past auction results and preparing bids. I saw some weird stuff, but these things are on another level of strangeness.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait till you see what people are paying for Poor 1 graded coins. Also what people pay for original "dirty" gold coins.B)

I am very pleased with the end price.

Thanks to Dick Abramhams with Great Toning for getting me a great price.
