Any hope at a bump?

I've been looking to buy a PSA 9 '79 Topps Gretzky since last fall. The prices were really high and I decided to wait for a pull back. When the market went through its most recent surge PSA 9s were pushing $10K. The two of the most recent sale were for $5800 & $5300.

In the mean time I watched 8's react accordingly and drop too. So I've been looking to buy one with a shot at a bump until the 9 market levels off. I recently acquired this one. The pictures weren't quite as clear as I hoped but for the price I took a shot.

Well it arrived today and I'm on the fence on if it will bump. With the card in hand it looks great. Presents well, good centering with just a slight tilt. Under 10x the two right corners are spot on. The left not so much. The upper is very slightly touched and the lower is touched. But again in hand looks great (to me anyways)!

So that's why I'm here. Let me know what you think. Shot at 8.5 maybe?

I don't think it will bump to 8.5 but it is worth a shot. Regardless, that's a beauty. Congrats.

Agree with Mullins. I think in order for a bump one of 3 areas must be outstanding for the grade. 1) Centering 2) Corners and 3) image registration/color focus. When I look at the card the centering and corners do not stand out as a high-end 8 and as far as registration/color focus I am not familiar enough with this card to comment on it. Always worth a shot as the upside is worth it. Good luck if you decide to submit and let us know.

I don't see a bump in that card
To me, the miscut of the card sticks out the most
Then the print, vertical lines and snow
That lower left corner looks harsh under magnification. And the nick on the lower left border by his ankle is bothersome.
One of my favorite cards, so I am a fan in any condition. I think you still have a nice one, enjoy it!

Old flip, generous grade. Stand pat.

I don't think so. In fact I would be afraid to crack it out.

Agree with the others. No bump in my opinion. It presents nicely, but is an 8 and no higher. The two touched corners will hold it back.

Well that ends that. Oh well. Got it at a god price and will probably just file it away for a rainy day. Thanks a lot to all who took the time to chime in. You are all members whose opinion I respect.

    Thanks,
