I am parting with my 1961 Fleer Basketball Set all in PSA 7 and above. The auctions are through PWCC and are slated to end next Sunday 7/16 between 3:29pm Pacific and 3:45pm Pacific. I know there are some guys collecting the set on here, hopefully some of the cards from my set can make it into your sets. Some of the commons are average for the grade, but I was pretty picky on the big cards and I think all of the major cards look pretty good for their grade.

There are tons of deals to be had as many of the cards in the set are still sitting at or around minimum bids. Here are links to the big dogs in the set. If you collect this set or just collect HOF/HOF RC's please check them out:

Jerry West IA PSA 7 -- Certified High End by PWCC

I know this is not one of the big cards in the set but I will include a link here because I think it deserves special attention. When I sent my set in, I thought two cards had really good chances at getting the High End label from PWCC. One of them got it (the Jerry West IA above) and this one did not. This one looks way better than the grade and would make for a super high eye appeal 7 in anyone's set (look at the centering!). A definite bump candidate if you want to play that game.

Hal Greer PSA 7

Lastly, I also sent along this card. It is a pretty rare card to find signed by all three and graded by PSA/DNA. This one is a PSA 6 which is a Pop 11 with only 14 higher.

To anyone who read this far, my apologies for the long post. I will bump this thread periodically between now and the end of the auctions.

Thanks for looking!

and wish you well on the sales. Sad to see a fellow 61 fleer guy go--I remember how excited you were when you started buying the cards

Thanks for the well wishes Stephen and Manny. We are now around 24 hours to go and there are some cards that are already up there but several still well below VCP. Most of the commons are sitting at bargain prices and surprisingly the certified High End Jerry West IA is still under 50% of VCP.

Manny, I love the set and I am sad to let it go. Family expenses have come calling for now. Luckily, I have a lifetime to collect. Much like I have completed the 1986 Fleer set in multiple grades multiple times I will likely jump back into the 1961 set when the time is right. For a true basketball lover, this set is too great to ignore, especially the big RC's in this set. And I will post here when I get them again!

Steve - What are your thoughts on the results? It looks like the West and Oscar did pretty good. I think the Wilt RC did OK, it outperformed the last two, as it should have since it was nicer.

Man, sorry for my very late reply. I was ecstatic with the returns on this set. You figure you will break even or get beat a little (after consignment fees) on most of the commons and you hope to make it up with your key cards in a set break. My commons generally did ok with some pluses and some minuses. But with only one exception, the key cards greatly outperformed VCP so my net turned out better than my most optimistic projections.

I thought the Wilt was really nice and I thought that it would actually go a little higher. It went for a strong price, so I am not complaining. But as few of them as are out there for sale that look nice for the grade, I thought it might get even a bigger bump. I was most impressed by the Baylor results (both his RC and IA went for significantly more than VCP). He has long been undervalued in this set as I think he is only a notch below Robertson and West as a player, but his cards have languished behind by a pretty wide margin. The Sam Jones PSA 8 RC also crushed it in the break. The one card that I was shocked went below my expectations was card #66 Jerry West IA. That card was an absolute blazer in every sense. It even received the vaunted PWCC HE sticker! Usually the HE seal of approval means beaucoup bucks in the auction. In this case, the card barely got to VCP! Nevertheless, the sale blew by expectations. IMO, this set break is a pretty good advertisement for PWCC's services.

I agree with you on the Wilt, I thought it might get to $3000 since it had much better eye appeal than the other ones that recently sold. Overall that was a very nice set you broke.
