Photobucket is hijacking everybody!

frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,129 ✭✭✭✭✭

Now, we have to pay $400 per year to post pictures through Photobucket. I have a couple of active threads that have literally hundreds of pictures....and now they are gone! I am either going to have to start over or I am going to have to edit every FLIPPIN' picture after I find another host! Wow! I promise I am not usually like this. I am all in favor of the free market. Well... actually this statement REFLECTS the free market.........I hope Photobucket goes under and goes out of business! There, I said it. If that company is so stupid to hijack every user on there.....they can just go belly up and I won't give a flip!

Any ideas of another picture hosting site?

Edited to say - If this is old new, I apologize. This is the first I have heard of it. I was going to add to my Cardinals autograph thread when I just now discovered this news. I have HUNDREDS of pictures that I now have to edit somehow!

Unfortunately, I have images saved in photobucket that aren't saved anywhere else after having lost a PC a year or so back. Looks like they're gone for good now. I wish I had known this was coming.

Wow that sucks, Shane. I had not heard about it ether. I am fortunate to not have many pictures saved there.

I use Shutterfly and its free. It also doesn't have a million pop-ups like Photobucket. I don't know if there is a limit to what you can post there but check it out you might like it.

I found out about this this morning when I was updating a set build thread on another forum. I've lost all my photos as well. Many hours of scans and work down the drain with that thread. I'm trying not to let it ruin my weekend as it's a beautiful day, and there's more to life than cards and threads, but I was very pissed off earlier....deep breaths...

Edited to say too that I would never even entertain the thought of giving Photobucket any money because their site sucks...

Actually, they are not gone for good. You can still access you pictures and download them to your PC. The thing that you CAN'T do is post those pictures to a message board. Third party hosting is what costs $400. What's gone for good is my autograph and team set collection thread.....until I have time to use another site and edit each post! Argh!!!!!!

Frankly, I'm surprised it took them this long to stop providing free third party hosting. In the current economic landscape, where there's money to be made, someone is going to try and capitalize on that.

Again, I agree with a free market system. They have the right to do that. But.....the other side of the free market system is going elsewhere and hoping they go belly up!

I could understand if they said...."From now on, any future pictures will cost to third party host". But....they hijacked everybody with very little warning......and years of picture links go down the drain!

Sure, that opinion is your right, same as their decision to begin charging for the service they provide (formerly at no charge). In the end, the free market will determine if this decision on their part was a beneficial one.

I do agree that advance notification would have been nice.

I'll probably get some flack about it, but I have been pretty happy with just using Google Drive. 15Gb of free storage and 100Gb for like a buck a month. You just have to have a gmail account, but I have been using it to create my unopened pack collection using their simple website creator to keep track of my pack information. Nothing fancy, but hey, the price is good :)

I may be hoarding too much 80's junk wax but I like it!

The way they handled this was very childish.

I've had that account for 12 yrs.

If the price were fair, I would've done it but now - no matter what they come up?

I'm moving on. All of the photos in "bucket" are also in my computer.

So they can stick my account where the sun or moon doesn't shine.

I could see floating them some money each month if their site was actually good, but it's not. I'm not trying to sound bitter either, but you go on, there is pop ups galore at the beginning just like a 1995 AOL site, and then after you clear the 30 pop ups, then the site will keep freezing up and it will take forever to even share photos. I've had better luck using the APP on my phone then using the actual website on PC. The PC version is deplorable. I could walk from here in Toledo where I live to the National in Chicago faster than it takes sometimes to share photos with that site...

    Agree James.

It's been bad - and they ramped up the popups to get people to pay a couple of bucks a month just for the privilege of not seeing them.

    What's really bad?

The forum - Baseball Fever has some of the best - over the years - file of old photos. Some I have never seen anywhere else.

They're all gone. It would impossible for members to go back and restore them without the assistance of PB.

It's not worth going on a true rant, but there's quite a few things going on in the hobby right now that I'm not happy with. I feel another break coming on.

Imgur has been great. I switched when Photobucket started to get really buggy.

I think addblockplus was invented just for trying to make navigating photobucket tolerable!

What he said. Went to imgur in 2012 and never looked back. No drama. Albums work great. Never any issues. Not sure why people love photo bucket.
