I was shocked when I opened the box this buffalo nickel was in. I've gotta say this is one of the best strikes for a 16-D I've ever seen. The luster is also booming. Just look at how split the rim is over "Liberty" along with full details and a split tail that you rarely see on any buffalo nickel short of a proof. At any rate I find this one over the top in many ways.
Comments are always welcome and thanks for looking.
Happy hunting, Joe
Now it's graded. Thanks again to all.
Happy hunting

Beautiful Coin! Just started my collection of Buffs, hopefully I will find such a nice Coin for that year.
doubling on the date?

Doubling pretty much all over the obverse.
Probably one of the nicest buffs I've seen in a long long time.
Nice addition, congrats!

Hammered!
I believe it is called "strike, machine, or ejection" doubling.
I know it as machine doubling but you can call it any of those you've mentioned.
Good looking Buffernick! Congrats on the Newp!

Joe,
I've seen most of your collection via your photos and pcgs and I must say this coin ranks near the top. Congratulations. If I had one Buff like that I would be happy.

Very nice! Are you going to get it toned? J/K
Wow! Gorgeous, Joe!
How large is your collection of Buffalo's now? Do you have more than one complete date/mm set? I know you buy a lot of duplicates.
Lance.
Hammered is right! and dripping with luster. I could stare at that for a long time. Very nice addition!

Awesome!
Super strike. A great newp.
Excellent detail. Possibly among the first few hundred off new dies.
Mesmerizing.
Simply stunning.
Just beautiful.
Thanks to all for chiming in. I feel this is a special coin and wanted to share it with my friends right here on this forum. It's not everyday a guy can land such a wonderful piece like this. It will be submitted for grading to our host. I will for sure share the results.
Thanks again, Joe
Another beauty, Joe!
Looks like a pop 1 to me. Good luck on the sub.
Really superb in every way.
Super!
Wow
That's exemplary. I don't recall seeing one, short of a proof, with such fine detail.
Looks good from here, nice images as well.
Top shelf Buff. 1916-D was struck better than a lot of Denver coins, and specimens like this can be found if you look hard enough. The reverse is top notch. Definitely not a typical strike for this date and mint.
Again, nice find.
Pete
Nice machine doubling!
I think Joe has the market cornered on nice buffs.
Joe has buffalos like Colonel Sanders has chickens
