Considering buying some in hand "eTopps" Derek Jeter cards........a few questions
So I never knew these existed until today. Im considering buying a 2011 eTopps Derek Jeter #42, sealed in its factory Topps issued case. How popular are these cards among collectors? I see that they are all /999 and their prices, original and sealed, are in the $10-15 range. Would these be a nice addition to my Jeter collection or just cheap and gimmicky?
I see the population report for this card is 1 gem mint 10, 3 mint 9's and one 8 for a total of 5 graded by PSA. Would this card others like it from different years, be worth picking up, especially from an investment standpoint? Also, would these be worth cracking out of their factory case and submitted to PSA for grading? I find it funny that theres a PSA 8, since I assumed someone would've removed it from the case and immediately sleeved it, leaving little risk of scratching or ruining the card. These can't be subbed in their original cases can they? Any advice appreciated.
Picture for reference, pardon the size

I recently submitted 2 Tom Brady Etopps autographs that both came back BGS 9.5 Gem Mint. If you bought these sealed they'll grade pretty high seeing they been touched once when they were sealed. If you're a Jeter fan these cards graded should be a great addition to your collection especially if you get them all fairly cheap. They're beautiful cards.
If you send them for grading you have to break the seal and put them in card savers. You're all but guaranteed high grades on these and if you decide to sell them later,Mint & Gem Mint cards of Jeter should be easy sellers.

Thanks. Think these cards would lose value when removed from the factory holders versus being PSA graded and slabbed?

removing them and not grading them? probably but you said they weren't selling high anyways. Grading them will get you the most money out of them in the long run if you don't hold onto them. Check out the pop report grades for any etopps cards, they come back with high grades 99% of the time. Hell,I'd buy a bunch, grade them and when he's going into the HOF in the next couple years put them out for sale when his cards prices make that HOF bump.

Yea I like the look of the cards too and since they are limited and unique, I think they are pretty cool. Mike Trout stuff is way out of my price range right now so keeping my Jeter collection going is all I can afford!

I hear ya. I just started collecting again after about a ten year break and the only cards that I was collecting were graded Brady Rcs & Autos, which have pretty much gone past what I can afford, and Michael Jordan's stuff from the 80's,which haven't luckily.
I love the etopps cards, they have that refractor look and the with them having been sealed, you know they'll grade high. I had this link saved if you want to check it out? Its the etopps site but I think its been left for dead. It at least has a checklist of all the cards and you can find out which players have Etopps Autos

I have a small collection of etopps and they are cool to own. You can't go wrong with Jeter either graded or not graded. If you have the budget, buy all the Trout and Harper RCs you can find at a reasonable price.
I ended up picking up a 2007 and 2011 from the same seller on eBay. Love the retro 1985 theme of the 2007 card.

Awesome. If you ever see the 2001 Jeter etopps, jump on it. One recently just sold for 40.99, which is a great price. This is Jeter's first etopps card.
Ugh I guess that's my next pickup. I'm trying to sell my PSA 9 McGwire USA rookie to fund it lol.
Just purchased a bunch of PSA 9 and 10 Bowman Platinum Jeter cards from 2010-2013 because I've never owned any.
