Question about sizing of 1978 OPC baseball cards

I just bought what appears to be a nice 1978 OPC baseball set. I have noticed the sizing is very uneven, both in width (mostly) and in height.
Is this common with '78 O Pee Chees?

    Yes, unfortunately. I pulled this 78 OPC Murray RC from a pack several years ago. Came back minsize from PSA both times I submitted it due to it being slightly narrow in size. Made for a nice addition to my raw set, though.

    Another issue with 78 OPCs is the "flared corner" whererby the card gets wider as you move closer to the corner, like you see here with this Niekro.

    These cards were cut at the factory using airplane tension wire, so I suppose these kinds of defects are not terribly surprising.

    Despite these issues, I've always enjoyed collecting this set and the cards with their natural "rough cuts" coming straight out of the pack. The set is much smaller than Topps (no Molitor RC) and like most OPC baseball issues undervalued due to lack of collector demand, but when you get a gem mint card out of a pack, it's a thing of beauty.



    Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

    Thanks, Tim, for the replay and scans. I just bought a really nice set on eBay for pretty cheap. It looked good until I got to the Eddie Murray card. This card is short in both width and height and when I lay it on the right side, there is some daylight in the middle of the card. This could be trimming or it could be the flared corner you describe. While the Murray is short both ways, there are a handful in the set that are the same width and at least a couple that are the same height. Just seems a little coincidental that Murray is short both ways. I'd love to hear some other opinions as well. Here is the Murray:

    Bumping this is the hopes someone else will chime in. Any opinions on my Murray card, especially being short in both height and width? I've seen some of the disaster on eBay. At least it's better than this:
