Fair price for a collection? Help!

Hi all,
A friend of a friend has a decent little collection of unopened. I value it at around $3000 from ebay sold prices. Question I have is if you are a dealer or even a collector that buys collections, what general percentage do you use if any when buying them? I want to offer a fair deal, and don't want him to take it somewhere else since there are a few great boxes I want to keep for my collection, but also quite a few boxes that will be slow to sell on the bay. The seller states that he just doesn't want to store it anymore and doesn't really know what it is worth. Any opinions on a fair price? Thanks!

$2000.
70% is what some of the top dealers advertise. I think it just depends on how much you want them and what the risk is that he will look elsewhere and garner higher bids. If it is something you can't live without go up to 85% as he would be pressing his luck to get more since you state some of the boxes will be slow to move.
70-75% on the stuff you like and 50% on the stuff that'll be tough. If anything needs to be authenticated I'd subtract from value. If there's an item you want for your PC I might go 5% over the total to get a deal done. If it's all to flip, maybe 5% lower and work up.
I'd also be straight up. This is what it's "worth", and what you might get for it on your own on eBay. It'll be a hassle, eBay and PP will take their cut. It may need authentication which is time, fees and shipping. It could be returned by a crappy buyer. Most won't sell quick or at all unless greatly reduced. Or, try taking to a local shop and they'll likely offer 60% in trade if lucky or 40% cash to account for fees, hassles, margin, etc. All true and will likely make working with you more appealing.
Good Luck.
Ill say this.....a while back i sold pretty much all of my unopened collection, a ton of it figuratively...to put it back into another hobby....within 3-4 weeks (around there) i sold it all off for, collectively, 7-10% discount to recent ebay and bbce if i remember correctly
.....
what was kind of funny was that one guy here almost bought it all before i started to sell it off box by box.....in the end the "piece-meal" total sold came to around 3-400$ of what i was gonna sell it all to him for....almost exactly
my latest being 1983 boxes....my point being...dont sell (or buy,ha) yourself short. 2/3 of going ebay prices for certified unopened is an awesome price.
Depends on a lot of factors....averaging selling price per card being the most important. At $3000, are we talking 10-$300 cards, 100-$30 cards or 300-$10 cards. Ease of sale is also a factor. Is it stuff that will sell, but might take the right buyer or is it stuff that will insta-sell at the right price. High end material, I would agree with the $2000 price, but if it were lower end and slow selling, I dont know if I would offer $500 for it. It really depends on the items
I generally deal with raw collections and If it's a lot of work I offer 50% of what I think it's worth. It can take years to recoup your money.
With unopened 75% makes more sense.
