1858 California 18k GOLD token. $90. PRICED WELL UNDER BOOK!! This piece was most likely minted after 1873 and backdated to 1858 to circumvent the coinage act of 1873 which made all currency dated post 1873 to have a denominations and can only be minted by the federal government. In this case, a shop owner in California has minted their own California gold to use as currency rather than what the government put out. Very uncommon to see these with decent detail let alone cameo due to their extremely small size and the relative ease of being lost. These tokens are more rare than the fractionals that the government minted due to their uniqueness and lack of mass minting.
