Nothing found in Cherrypickers or Variety Vista - does this look worthy of review by Dr. Wiles for OMM ?... or is it just a hammered D ?....opinions appreciated...Thank you!!

Edit: What I think I'm seeing drawing.

If you continued drawing out the S and based on the size of the lower half, the overall size would be too large for an S mintmark of that era and denomination. Most likely die erosion. Is the area inside the D raised, or can you tell?

I should have thinned the lower tail, it looks like the vertical of the "D" is centered in the thin part of the tail, looking
in David Langes book for comparisons of MM's.

To the best of my ability it definitely looks raised inside.....2 more pics. here.

Hmmmm, interesting, only a few of your pix loaded when I replied.

Now that your pix are showing with the tail sticking out, I can understand why you're thinking OMM.

Possibly could be OMM and RPM both, worth looking at closely because it would be rare/$ if OMM, even if not RPM.

Likely though a die gouge or wear like shagnasty says.

I guess there could be RPM and OMM posiibilities that would be great.......or maybe its nothing...

    I think it's a D/D.....maybe horizontal D.

I think the serif sticking out on the left is the lower serif of the "D".

Pretty neat, no doubt something going on no matter what.

Notice how motheaten the 5 is. This is a very late die state coin, and the irregularities around the D COULD be attributed to die wear.

Take more pix, change lighting and take more pix and change lighting.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed since I'm tripping over rolls of uninspected 35 D's.

let me see what I can do.....I'm struggling with point and shoot and incandescent lighting.
