1969 Topps Poppage - Couple of nice hits

From an ebay set.... quite a few BVG crackouts - some went down (like Brooks Robby - - not sure what the heck happened there) and some went up like the Jim Palmer and the Wes Parker WL (now Pop 3!)....

Pretty happy here for sure (and a nice quick pop on the bulk rate):

Nice hit on the Fingers, Mike.

I think I have it in a 6 - bought it years ago - when grades seemed to be inflated by sellers?

I was looking to put this set together in raw NMMT form. Keep me in mind if you decide to unload the commons please.

    Thank you amigos.

It was a near set that was on ebay BIN/BO for months - I decided to take a chance.

I am just starting the set too Brian. Building mostly raw with graded stars, mostly in the 7-8 range with an eye towards centering. Will let you know what I have for doubles - right now only a hundred or so.

The Palmer was pretty nice, but 9 is a surprise - pretty stoked about that one. Will probably flip the tough Wes Parker - it was super sharp and dead centered.

Mike - I got lucky on this Fingers for sure. It was raw in the set, and the seller had graded many - don't know why he never subbed this one. Just got lucky I guess - like your story on the '75 Ryan you got for sharing your table!

Great, so I'm gonna be going up against you for minty 1969's? I might just find another set until you're done. Lol

Nice hits Mike. I'm getting close to closing out my 69 master set in PSA 9. About 100 to go. The WL variations are a bear.

Thanks Dave -- congrats on getting closer! John better watch his back....

Brian: Don't worry too much about me, I think I only need about 80 cards (although I did throw in a pretty good bid on PWCC's best 69 set last night - not enough though.... ;)

Jeez Mike, how many partial sets do you have? I know you don't sell often.

Nice! Just so I'm clear, this sub was bulk 10+ cards 30-day at $10 each? On the submission form, does one mark "other" and describe the bulk rate?

Too many. I should run a "10 for the price of 8" sale on complete sets any year from 1975-1979... would make my wife very happy

Yep - the $10 rate is correct

My hunch is that there's a boat load of 1962's laying around too.

Nice hits. Looks like it's safe to go back and work on my '73 set, thanks Mike for moving on.... ;)

    You remember that Mike? Wow.

I've had a few winners like that but not many.

Got 'em today - I think I caught a break on Palmer with the centering...

    Very nice for sure.

The centering on Palmer looks fine to me. Do you mean vertically? The card is right up against the top edge of he holder making it look worse.

  • rexvosrexvos Posts: 3,304 ✭✭✭✭✭

Love the Palmer. Actually my favorite card of him as well.

I think he means that the centering helped land the higher grade

The shadow from the holder at the top border of the Palmer slab makes the centering look off, but its actually pretty sweet. To me, you caught a break with the Fingers rookie and the noticeable tilt that it has.

Edited to add: InitialD might be right with what he said.

Also, what did you miss on the Brooks Robinson?
