I believe it looks like a French or German Jetton token, a coin used for counting or games. 16th -17th century. I am 85% sure that is what it is, my initial thought was medieval Spain, but more likely a Jeton.
Thanks for the compliment. We use a middle quality Nikon digital camera, a very simple copy stand, and various lighting techniques depending on the coin. And of course some adjustment in Photoshop.
We highly recommend purchasing a copy of "Numismatic Photography" by Mark Goodman (I believe he is a member of these forums). It contains a lot of very useful information from basic setup and camera selection to very advanced techniques.
