Golden State had 20 turnovers tonight and still won by 19. You don't usually see that especially against a Lebron James led team.

Golden State made some amazing shots tonight, they had a hard time missing. it now seems that a sweep in play.

A sweep is possible. It's not that the Cavs are playing bad....they are not. James is playing great and Love and Tyre(sp) are playing very good. 113 points usually wins the game. The Warriors are just shooting too good. And it's not that the Cavs are playing poor defense......the Warriors just more the ball around so good and the players more so good without the ball...that someone gets open and gets a good shot. The Warriors have the best team talent wise and if they continue to shoot lights out...it will be over in 4. But as they say.......they will play the games and see what happens.

this has been an extremely "rough" series thus far. the announcers keep praising the Officials for "letting them play" but it seems like only a matter of time before there will be a serious injury. I saw a lot of arm hooking and jersey pulling that wasn't called(on both sides), and stuff like that really does affect the play on the court.

another thing that is hard for me to figure out is how the Officials rule on the screens and on some of the blocking calls in the lane. I have always thought that if a player is stationary and gets run over that it's a charge --- apparently not. also, am I wrong in saying that a "moving screen" is illegal?? judging from last not it is no longer a blocking foul.

worst of all is this silly continuation thing outside of the arc --- they really need to fix that. I accept it as it is currently ruled and explained by the announcers and the guy in New York. the thing is that once the foul is committed the player(s) automatically throw up the ball. they are almost never really trying to shoot, who shoots from 30 feet?? to my way of thinking they need to rule on that sort of thing differently outside of the arc.

let's be honest, that sort of continuation isn't the same thing as when a player gets fouled driving the lane.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

after watching two games with quite a few stellar players, who stands out as the classy players are on each Team?? for me it's the following guys:
Golden State --- Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguadala.
Cavs --- Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving.

for those players, you rarely see anything except hard work and effort. I left off Lebron James because I think he pleads his case too much, though in his defense he takes a lot of hacking.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

I agree somewhat. Who shoots from 30 feet.......Curry....all the time. And I saw a perfect screen by GS's big guy that was called a foul. And be honest James gets away with a lot of forearm pushing driving to the basket that is never called. He is almost impossible to stop anyway, but if you allow that.......

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,119 ✭✭✭✭✭

Another rules violation that rarely gets called is travelling. It happens all the time. On drives to the basket last night i saw pkayers take 3 and even 4 steps without dribbling. No call by the refs.

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,119 ✭✭✭✭✭

The continuation shot after getting fouled is ridiculous.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Who shoots from 30 feet.......Curry....all the time.
I won't argue with you about that, I will only say that the three point distance is 23 feet and 9 inches.

Kevin, you're right about the traveling. another form of traveling is the way players palm the ball when dribbling.

To my eye, Kyrie Irving hasn't looked right at all. His customary explosiveness just hasn't been there. Come to find out today that he is dealing with a nagging knee injury.

This series is all but over. If it extends past 5, I'll be quite surprised.

the difference in Irving from Boston to Golden State can't be fully explained by saying "Klay Thompson." I hadn't heard of any injury, where is that posted??

Granted no one is 100% at this stage, but it has been more evident with Irving. At least to me it has. Great dude, great player, but I'm just not witnessing the turbo boost I've become accustomed to. To his credit, he's still battling like hell out there.

I expected that the entire series would be close like tonight's game was. Both teams played very well. James, Irving and Durant were fantastic. Curry and Clay Thompson played great also.

Steam - A one hit wonder.

Game 3 was painful to watch at the end. To lead for so long only to lose it at the end.

113 points just isn't enough to beat the Warriors.

Kyrie looked good...even though some of those drives he takes more steps than I do going to get my mail. :o

this one was indeed hard to take in at the end, although I will say that I really wasn't upset. I listened to a little post-game before I went to bed and can only laugh at all the anal-ysis, breaking everything down to explain to us why the Cavs lost. it was quite clear................................because they went the final 3+ minutes without scoring. that's the simplicity of it all, a true game of inches when you think about it. if one or two of their shots had gone in at the end they would have won.

the series thus far sets up an interesting scenario that we all know the answer to --- who is the MVP??? the award will go to Kevin Durant but any reasoned person should understand that it could be shared with/given to Lebron James. both players have driven their Teams in each game and it has been fun to watch.

GSW played 13 players. Cleveland, 9.

    Bench scoring 23-9.

Kyrie and King getting little to no help.

LBJ seems to do all he can to get others involved, but they just crack under the pressure it seems. But at the end he needs to shoot instead of kicking out...unless it's to Kyrie.

While the regular season largely seems unimportant, I do think the GSW supporting cast made the most of their minutes when main guys were out and their style encourages anyone with a good look to shoot, even when stars are in. Not sure the same is true for Cleveland supporting cast.

Not only has James played great, but so has Erving. And Love has played very very good. The Cavs have a great team. GS is just loaded with too many weapons. Like I mention before they move very good without the ball and make great passes until someone is open and makes a shot. Curry is unreal with his shooting from anywhere on the floor. And KD is unguardable.

I feel for Cavs fans....because if they do get swept....it will be the best team that has ever been swept!!

ironically, during the regular season the Cavs had a better 3-point shooting record than the Warriors. to their credit, Golden State has been lights out in the Finals and it has served them well.

I think it is safe to say that their (GS) 3-point shooting has been the difference in every game.

Yes Cleveland was first in the league in the regular season in 3 point percentage but GS was third. Marginal. Not much to choose from. But in the Finals different story.

I find the spread points interesting:

Game 1 GS favored by 7. Warriors cover
Game 2 GS favored by 10.5. Warriors cover
Game 3 GS favored by 3.5. Warriors cover
Game 4 GS favored by 6

The reason the Warriors are up 3-0 is not their offense. It is their defense.

I kind of disagree. In the last 2 wins they gave up 113 points, but scored more. I would say it's their offense.

James and Irving are scoring at will.

No real dog in the fight though I favored Cleveland, it would be impressive to see GS sweep 16-0. That is a lot of straight wins vs playoff level opponents on the road as well as at home.

Of course a game (or maybe more) remain to be played.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

Right now GS is getting a taste of their own medicine ..............getting rained on by 3-pt shots. ;)

Giving up 49 points in the 1st quarter......will lose ya some ballgames.

16-point lead with a full quarter to go is not safe vs Golden State.

    two points:
--- I have said before that the Cavs actually shot better than Golden State from three during the regular season, so hitting these now should be no surprise. the true surprise was that they had shot poor through three games outside of the arc.
--- Cleveland exploited a weakness the Warriors have, starting right out of the gate they used the paint to force fouls and got several players in trouble early. that may not seem like much it causes them to adjust their defense and play a little "looser" to minimize risk.

Plus they held Curry to almost nothing.

A great game by the Cavs.

James is something else. Can't believe he did the ole throw it off the backboard for his own dunk.....in a finals game!

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

after watching the two Teams I wonder what it would have been like to have, in their prime years, Durant, James, Curry and Irving playing together? both Teams have multiple players that are really fun to watch, but those four are unbelievably dominant at times. they can single handedly change games.

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,119 ✭✭✭✭✭

I had a social engagement tonight and got home in time to see them end of the third quarter and the fourth quarter. Cleveland was on fire. With 5 or 6 minutes left in the game and the lead reduced to 11 I thought the Warriors might go on a run. No chance tonight. Cleveland refused to take their foot of the gas.

The Warriors better win Game 5 or they will be looking at a repeat of last year.

  • JustacommemanJustacommeman Posts: 22,847 ✭✭✭✭✭

The Warriors would have lost 22 million dollars if they won tonight if you are into that sort of thing.

    Regardless. Good for Cleveland!

Kevin, except for a three minute lapse to end game three we'd be considering that "repeat" already. it is peculiar that we are at game five, again, at 3-1 although the Teams arrived there differently in each Final. while I still don't expect the Cavs to win out and again do what has never been done I can't say it might not happen after last night.

I thought the post game was interesting. one of "anal-ysts" opined that Cleveland had to play perfect to beat the Warriors. what a joke. Cleveland had been under-performing for the first three games while the Warriors have been over-achieving for almost two months now. perhaps after last night we will see the Teams each play at realistic levels commensurate to their respective talent levels. if that happens, whoever wins however many games remain, we will witness what the finals are all about.

the neat thing about a seven game series is that it comes down to adjustments, consistency and the player(s) who rise above. I will do each Team, four players, and try to remain objective although I am certainly biased towards Cleveland.

    Golden State.
--- Durant is about as consistent as a player can be, just give him 38 points and move on.
--- if Draymond Green can control himself he can be a game changer. last night it appeared that the Cavs have discovered how to keep him away from the boards enough to give TT some rebounds.
--- everyone knows what Curry can do, but last year and last night we saw what the Cavs can make him not be able to do. when he is held to 2-9 shooting Cleveland will win.
--- I am a Klay Thompson fan, he is a versatile and skilled player, but he has been erratic.

    Cleveland.
--- Lebron is Lebron, give him his triple/double and hope he doesn't get to that place where he's un-freakin'-stoppable. I think the only thing that can slow him is foul trouble.
--- Irving seems to be the Cavs "rise above" guy and I don't think the Warriors have anyone that can cover him, which presents a problem --- if they double him James is free.
--- if Kevin Love continues to shoot well and rebound it will be nice.
--- the Cavs bench needs to step up and contribute better minutes, not necessarily score more but keep Golden State off the points.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

What goes around.....comes around! This could get very interesting. If and this is a BIG if......the Cavs come into GS and steal one...then go home and win game 6....I could see the same thing happening this year that happened last year. The Warriors would be reeling and would be playing Romo ball with their hands around their throat. It would be the biggest choke job ever. The Cavs are good enough and the Warriors know it. It will all come down to the 3 pointer. Both teams have great players who can drive the lane and finish. But anybody can get hot or cold at the 3 point line.

I like both teams......so play ball and let the best team win.
