Sending PM's

Each time I try to send a PM to a first-time contact, I type in their name. As soon as I go to leave the message, the recipient disappears from the screen.

I'm sure this is operator error on my part. Please help.

When I click on your name and then on message, your name is already in the recipient box and then I could type and send the message.
