Excellent Analysis of Flying Eagle and Indian Head Cent Collecting in this month's Longacre's Ledger

Kudos to Rick Snow for the article providing an historical context to collecting certain varieties, design changes, and transitional issues through the years. I had not thought much about the various external influences (other than album hole filling, the Red Book and the Registry) as having such influence over our collecting habits.

I agree with the premise of the article ... that PCGS Registry has it wrong on basic sets and variety sets. Why won't they listen to experts and collectors? I have complained multiple times about the addition of the "1858/7 weak" as a separate variety. No right minded collector with an 1858/7 Strong is going to buy a late die stage of the same variety. After multiple e-mails, I couldn't even get a "thank you for your concern" response.

This is part of the reason people don't post on the Registry board anymore. PCGS will begin losing the Registry as a driver if they don't listen to the very people who are deeply involved in each particular series.

Thank you for the rant on the Coin Board. We all collect coins for a "set" of our liking, so I thought it was relevant to the entire board. You should take a look at the article whether you collect this series or another. I'm sure the same goes on in other series.

    Our host does seem to have it's own vision when deciding to whom it should refer to for varieties. They come around eventually to some of the "biggies", but when it comes to Flyng Eagle and Indian Cent varieties..."c'mon man"...who is the authority other than Rick Snow??? (Gerry) Fortin varieties have been added to be recognized for Seated Dimes with our host, along with these others;
