I was told that the one pack had two Rizzutos and one other HOF but not a rookie and two commons. Apparently, one Rizzuto looked like an 8 and the other had a shot at a 10.
Did any of the graded cards contain any of the aforementioned staining from the gum?

I wanted to share this with my collector friends.
MILE HIGH AUCTIONS just sent me this picture.
The packs have been verified by STEVE HART.
They are loose in the box, not holdered ------19 packs.
5 cards per pack, three sticks of gum.
A certain wrapper was put around the box-----not the REGULAR BBCE WRAPPING.
HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS PICTURE.

me either. So I no longer get to ponder why we can put a man on the moon, but Ken can't get a box of '52 Topps packs. Or why can't he just have a time machine, to go buy a box of '57 Topps packs. Or that pack that is selling for 15,532.79, how much that .79 really bothers him.
All repeated 5 times a day.
Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
And don't forget that you will be missing getting the same email every six months that shows the Woolworth's in Brooklyn (the one where his friend lived right down the street) with the '52 Wax Box Display.

I recall getting those over and over, too. I think I clicked on unsubscribe because I don't get them anymore, either, LOL..

The shame of it is that Ken is very knowledgeable when it comes to unopened and has sent a lot of cool pictures to many of us. (Quite a few of which are packs he owns.) The problem is that we don't need to get the same email ten times. (OK, maybe 20 times!!!)

Question #1 - How does all that gum survive years and years of being in a hot, humid Tennessee attack ? Those attacks can get up to 120 degrees.
According to the Forbes article, that's where they've been housed all these years.
From what I've heard the cards in the pack that were opened were in beautiful condition.

That is what is out there. Once they are returned by PSA, I know a lot of us are looking forward to seeing what they garnered.
Of the two Rizzuto RCs that were pulled, one was described as possibly a PSA 10 with the other in the PSA 8 range. I believe the box was kept in a climate controlled area. The packs themselves look pristine considering their age.

I agree Tim. It surprised me when they said they found the boxes in an attic. They seemed pristine. I heard that too about the Rizz. Really excited to see the pop results

Who has knowledge that these boxes came from an attic? This collection was never in an attic but inside a house on a shelf.
The Forbes article: "They all had been found fairly recently in his 90-year-old aunt’s attic in Tennessee after his uncle passed away. For more than half a century, the uncle had kept packs untouched in a Stroh’s beer box almost as old as the cards themselves."
Why did Mile High not pull one pack and auction it off separately? Since it is not a full box, this would not have hurt that box. And would have set a price on an individual pack.
I read the description in the Mile High catalogue-- it says that he consigner opened the wax pack that had the Rizzutos in 1948---then put the cards back in the pack w-the gum and left it undisturbed. This is very different than what was said here previously. It seemed as if the pack had been opened contemporaneously with the find.
The packs left over have been in the attack--errrrrr--attic--for many years. I will be surprised if the cards inside now are that minty
That is very interesting, Manny. My understanding, based on Shane's post, was that the two Rizzutos along with the other cards pulled from the pack had been recently sent to PSA for grading.

here is the salient part from the description. TIm--my guess is they were recently sent to PSA for grading--but the pack was ripped in 1948. Accurate description--inaccurate rumors. That may have a big impact on the price of this box if people look to the description rather than rumors--
As stated in the preface, this box was originally acquired by a member of the family for research and development, and the consignor shared with us the contents of a 20th pack that was opened in 1948 and left with the cards and gum still inside the wrapper (not included in this auction). Each of the five cards were near perfectly centered and appeared to be MINT to GEM MINT, along with three large slabs of aged bubble gum that are the same dimensions as the cards, bringing the total thickness of each pack to about half an inch. Of course, that's no guarantee that the cards in the other packs are equally as pristine
Would be interesting to hear how those cards graded. Mint to gem mint condition would be quite remarkable.

The ’48 Bowman set includes rookie cards of Yogi Berra, Stan Musial, Warren Spahn, Ralph Kiner and Phil Rizzuto, among others.
One of the packs wasn’t sealed, which actually helped identify them. Inside were five mint time capsules: a Warren Spahn rookie card, two Phil Rizzuto rookies and two cards of Walker Cooper. All were extremely well-preserved and worthy of grading.

Wow, that is a pretty picture. Thanks Doug for sharing.
I would be interested in hearing what collectors think this box (19 packs) will fetch? I think pack collectors are drooling all over their shirt for this, but knowing that most collectors only want/need a pack. Most won't pay for 19 packs to get 1 for their PC. On the other hand, most box collectors are going to want a full box for their PC instead of a partial. I believe this box will bring $300K. Am I too high?
Well Shane it appears you werent too high but rather too low--and way too low lol! And I was pretty much spot on when I said I wouldn't be surprised if it goes for a half million--it sold for $521,180--wow!! Certainly not bragging here but just having some good natured fun! But what I find more unbelievable is the 61 football box--suprised nobody has mentioned that one yet! Did anyone seriously think that one would sell for just shy of $120k and for more than what the 61 fleer basketball box sold for?!?! ($108,039). Even I couldn't have predicted that one!!

Wow I had no idea either

no staining on any of the cards from what I was told
Thanks for your response.

climate controlled? must've been an ear conditioned attack
