I was surprised that I didn't receive any 10s, but I have no complaints. All of the 6s could have been 8 OC, but I requested NQ. I am happy about getting the 9 on the Topps Game Mantle, but it was expected. I'll probably be putting some of the low population 8 and 9 COMMONS up on ebay after I get them back. My ebay username is also ajetfan.

If anyone is interested in making me an offer on any low-pop commons listed above, my email is rbenedic@optonline.net . I cannot officially put these up for sale until I get them back from PSA, so all offers will be considered while I'm waiting for the order.

As a side, for a direct sale or ebay, I will be able to accept PayPal, but only from a non-credit based source(bank account) or a PayPal balance. I can also email a high-resolution (600 dpi) scan of any of the raw cards to anyone making such a request. You can magnify the high-res scans to reveal much detail. Thanks!

we should have a thread for showing our submission results - thanks for sharing - very interesting, and I congrats on some of those impressive grades!

I was kind of pushing the envelope on some of them centering -wise, hence the o/c's, but what I can't figiure out is how a couple of them were "re-colored" as they came straight out of an old vending box remainder.???????????

I have had 3 or 4 of my 53's returned as re-colored. All but one of them I could see the re-coloring when I got them back. I don't know how I missed it! But one of them they claimed was re-colored and I had some solid history on it - NO WAY was it re-colored! Oh well, sometimes you come out better than expected also - just not very often. Zardoz, do you have other old vending in your collection? I always hear about a lot of vending boxes, but I never seem to see them. Yet, people then bust out submissions like yours, so they must be somewhere. Where?

ZARDOZ - Nice batch w/ a lot of nice grades. Are you now working on a '69 set too? Or did the '71 set give you more then you can handle? And whats the deal w/ the Mudcat Grant? a PSA-4 amongst all those 8's & 9's...jay

Au contraire in regard to the 71. I just entered a slug o'stuff including a Munson in an 8 image, a Rose in an 8 image, As for the Grant, I'm still trying to figure that one out. It must have one of those invisible internal wrinkles that only a grader can see image

    Uniship,

I have always liked vending runs, but the quantities out there have diminished dramatically over the past few years. There isn't much left out there.

    pinhigh,

Don't feel too bad... My submission received on May 14th just popped up grades yesterday. Besides that - I thought that I was going to be sick when I saw them. I dropped from my usual 95% PSA 8 & 9's to 55% 8 & 9 with everything else lower.

I get this picture of the grader getting off the phone with the wife that just left him as his boss yells at him for personal calls. "And NOW if it wouldn't be too much trouble!!! - here are Frank Bakka's cards to grade..."

    Hopefully you fair better.

The only bright spots to the invoice were a couple of pretty tough PSA 8's from the 72 set that I still needed - including 525 Carlos May, 306 Boswell IA, 322 Pena and 693 Alan Gallagher (sorry Carlos...).

Zardoz - tough break on the Kellogg's submission, but I'm sure there were a few choice winners image. You were probably just trying to push it a little too hard to get the set finished.

Hmmm, winner (singular!), but you've seen one or two of my prior invoices, the last one during the special, 24 out of 26 were 9's, the other two being 8's. I do like to think that I have an eye for this series. Tough to go from 95% to 60%. (Just venting steam!)

Zardoz: This does refresh (in my mind) the threads a bit back about grading being ratcheted up a notch since the Spring. Maybe this is just confirming earlier hunches. I know after I get my last 60's registry special submission back, I'm waiting until September or October to run the Gauntlet with the G.O.D.image

Zardoz - you wouldn't have a copy of your '71 invoice, the one that had the Drago that you said might be a 10? I've been waiting to hear how that submission turned out for a couple of months now.

was I bragging about a card prior to it being submitted? I did have a nice Drago a while ago, but it failed the ultraviolet light test. Into the trash!

Zardoz - why throw them away? You could have sent them to BMW, he could have given them to his relative, and then they could have sold them to Vorthian. This way, you'd have gotten the "over" covered in spades!

    EJGuru,

You may be right - it does sound like the thread were the criteria was being ratcheted up a little. I get the feeing that another "pep" talk was had at PSA over the last couple weeks.

My 60's invoice graded within a week and I was 90% dead on with my predictions versus what I got. (these were the cards we spoke of) My 70's invoice is the one that got whacked and my predictions were only 58% correct. I might even understand it on the 70's, 71's, and 74's - but I've looked at enough 72's to have a pretty good idea of what they should be.

Think I'll be picking out a few choice ones for cracking...

Great grades. I'm from the wrong era. Just got my grades back using "regular service"..took just 2 days!!! That's really a first. The problem is, for 1950's cards, the formula is: my estimated grade minus one equals PSA grade. I am a very tough grader, using a 20x magnifer and a UV light. My perfect 1957 Clemente got an 8 and my SGC 88 1957 Andy Carey got a 7! Oh well there's always resubmisiion..hopefully the graders will be in a better mood this Summer. Anybody else have experiences with 1950's grading?

I think PSA may have hiked their standards up a little also... My 1968 #1 NL Batting Leaders PSA 8 I purchased last September isn't as nice as some of the 7's image I just received in my latest return from PSA. Any tips on determining a 7 from an 8 on '68's? They seem very close... Thanks Ian

PurelyPSA - it was me with the Drago, and a 10 would shock me because I just dont get 10's. I purchased it that very day and my excitement about that card led me to post that it may be a 10 - I have calmed down since then. The Drago is at PSA right now, along with about 20 other 1971's. The Drago should come back at least 9 I think, but I am bracing myself for the 8 so I wont be TOO disappointed. I'll post those grades when they come back.

It is really funny you should mention "the grader of death"... Anytime I submit 68's during a special I get 7's, but during regular submissions, I always get 8's... I think the grader of death only workers during the specials that involve 1968 Topps... image I don't like 7's image

    Just my thoughts, Ian

    Ian,
Thats funny you mention that because my 7's on my 1968's went up substantially during the grading special. We must have all got the grader of death. Hopefully he'll be working the 80's regisrty special so we can get back to our normal % of 8's and 9's.

The grader of death has made me look over my submissions much closer. I had about 150 raw NM/MT to MINT cards to submit and I cherry picked the best 40 and submitted them while the rest of the cards may not be submitted now. They are the same quality as the cards that I had submitted before the grading special and averaged about 80% 8's and 9's. It'll be interesting to see what happens now that the grading special is over.

There seems to have been a recent trend in lower grades. There's several veteran submitters who have posted comments that their grading distributions have gone down. I hope it gets corrected because inconsistancy (either relaxed or tougher standards) in the grading business is not what we're paying for.

With me yes. All my submission since the first of the year have taken 2 weeks or less. The last submission of mine, a 60's special submission was received on the 21 st of May, and no grades have been posted as of today

Well, I have found that my turn around times from the 70's Special were much better than those of the 60's special for whatever reason. By almost 2 weeks better.
