1972 High Number Football SMR Prices

49ersGuy49ersGuy Posts: 382 ✭✭

I just noticed the prices of 1972 High Number cards in the SMR. I see the prices for many of the low number players are now the same as the high numbers. Some examples.

All these cards are now $3 PSA 7, $7 PSA 8, $15 PSA9

308 Earl Morrall

282 Dave Wilcox

284 Jimmy Johnson

268 John Niland

336 Jim Marshall

337 Tom Mack

Just months ago these prices were much higher. What caused the drop? I should point out that these prices are the exact same as any low number common.

I'd tend to believe that the people who actually purchase these cards are paying market price for condition, particularly in higher grade and pay little, if any attention to price guides other than VCP for graded and common sense combined with research for raw examples. 1972 Topps FB prices fluctuate quite wildly at times. I followed a nice example of the #308 Morrall card on eBay until it closed at 33 bucks a couple days ago. It was advertised as EX-MT. Similar examples sold for decent money prior to this one. I don't think a '72T PSA 9 Morrall will be had for $15 anytime soon. ;)

It might be an error too.
