Cavs deliver a Playoff Game for the ages w/26 point comeback.

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't know if you watched the game or saw the highlights, but last night the Cavaliers staged an epic comeback in Game 3 against the Indiana Pacers in Indiana. Down just before the half by 26 points they rallied and ended up winning by five at 119-114. The Pacers were so hot in the first half that they just couldn't miss anything while also beating the Cavs at the board on both ends. I don't know what was said in the respective locker rooms but the change in the third quarter was apparent and stark.

At times it is almost required to hate Lebron James or at least criticize his place in NBA history, but his level of play is hard to ignore. After a so-so half he stepped up play, started to hit 3's and drove the lane a few times which opened things for the rest of the Team. At the same time Indiana felt the D and lost some poise and confidence.

It bodes well for Cleveland who has really struggled this year with injuries and personnel changes. The one constant, Lebron James!!

Detractors will say what they will.....but LeBron is a one man wrecking crew.

he made a dunk in the fourth quarter and flexed after he came down, it was the windmill dunk. later on he went for a lay-up and ended on the ground. he didn't come up with his typical mean-mug, his face showed determination and confidence even though he was just fouled and denied the basket. at the time the Pacers were still up but the wind was out of their sails.

    Yawn.

For some reason the NBA season and playoffs have lost interest for me.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Kevin, that is sacrilege coming from someone who was all whipped up when the Warriors signed Durant. please explain yourself since this is a stunning turnaround from last October when you were pumped during the pre-season. why no interest??

Further, nobody likes Goliath. The past two years were fun. This one not so much, with both GS and Cleveland and their stat players.

I will tune in late into the semi's

I agree...way toooooo many teams make the playoffs. And every series is a 7 gamer. Playoffs start in April and it's not over until June. CRAZY!!! Send the winner of each division and every series is 5 games except the finals at 7.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

On a side note - I think the Bulls are done with Rondo gone. I know they didn't deserve to be there anyway, but it was fun watching them pound the top seeded Celtics the first 2 games.

**way toooooo many teams make the playoffs. **

I solve the dilemma by watching sparingly during the regular season and paying closer attention as the playoffs progress. after the first round of the playoffs things really get interesting.

it's the same with the NCAA --- I don't even take notice till it gets to the Sweet Sixteen.

At least in the NCAA it's win or go home..........not best of 7 for each step forward.....GAWD!!!

nice game last night as Teams move toward the end of the season. the Raptors have some good players and a good Team overall but I don't think they can outlast the Cavs. last night the teams traded runs until Toronto seemed to run out of gas in the middle of the third quarter.

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

is anyone watching the NBA playoffs now besides me?? the way the Cavs are playing notwithstanding, there has been some pretty good games with outstanding performances by several players.

Isiah Thomas is on fire . It looks like he is using what recently happened to his sister to motivate himself. In contrast to half the red sox for instance who get the sniffles and take 8 games off

Haven't seen a minute yet. Have another round to get through before I can watch. Today's game doesn't do it for me

I'm watching quite a bit. Marvelous athletes. With a lack of continuity in college basketball teams because of the "one and done" I much prefer to watch the Pros. I do miss much of the West coast games because they are on past my bedtime.

Washington absolutely crushed the Celtics last night, humiliated them. there was that 22-0 run in the first quarter that was hard to figure. plus, I saw something I never saw before in an NBA game when Olynk got floored. true, he had set a couple of hard blind screens on the same guy but there was nothing really illegal about any of it, just a player cracking with frustration.

looking at the games out West I read this morning the in their series with Utah, the Golden State Warriors have lead from wire-to-wire in each game, never trailed. that has got to be demoralizing for the Jazz.

Cavs up tonight in Toronto, should be a good game. the Raptors beat the twice up North last year but I expect this year to be different.

I'm as big an Association fan as there is, but I must admit, even I'm struggling this postseason. When the majority of these games are not competitive and the two finalists are already etched in stone, it's a hard sell.

That said, I'll be celebrating Cinco de Mayo at the Toyota Center tonight.

whatever happened to the thought of watching the best players and the best Teams compete against each other?? if what everyone wants is tight, squeaker games, maybe you guys should go watch some HS games.

Drama sells. The NBA has none. Maybe the semis in the West and perhaps the Finals. Game 7's is what the people want.

They crushed the Celtics but that was one of the NBA mandated losses it doesn't count

    did you watch the game???

the Wizards have figured out what to do on defense and if Boston doesn't counter they won't win another game. every time Washington came down the court they cycled through until they got the mis-match they wanted --- Thomas guarding whoever.

  • bronco2078bronco2078 Posts: 10,231 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well overall I think the wizards have mostly outplayed the Celtics in the series and the regular season. I'm from Boston so I watch the Celtics just as a homer but I can't really get invested in basketball in general. Its the kind of sport where the first 3 quarters are basically pointless and the 4th quarter means everything. In the playoffs I'll watch all 4 quarters of a game but during the regular season I only watch the ends of games.

Actually its similar to baseball in that . I like baseball but there is no way I'm going to watch entire regular season games . Baseball is about 1 game a month plus the post season for me. Hockey needs to rewind to at least the early 90's or I'll probably give up on that too

Its a sad state of affairs where football is the only sport I can watch entire regular season games.

with Football it's even worse than what you say about Baseball and Basketball, you only need to watch the final two minutes of most games.

what saves football though is that its only a 16 game schedule , spread over 4 months give or take . I can handle that 1 day a week , as long as it isn't Thursday night. 3 nights a week for 9 months for hockey or basketball ? I can't do it anymore or 28 days a month for the 19 month long baseball season ? no way I give up

Maybe its just part of growing older in a world with 600 cable tv channels and internet streaming 24/7/365 that has cheapened all of it.

Oh not really . Rewind the calendar to the 80's or 90's and I'd agree but 2-1 or 1-0 games with no fights either are dismal.

Agree about football. Each regular football game is equivalent to 10 baseball games. I also can't watch an entire regular season basball or basketball game unless I'm at one.football I can watch all day Saturday and Sunday.

I also agree with Glicked that hockey playoffs are where it's at

No doubt the gambling aspect being quite strong for football has much to do with footballs viewing appeal. Even if a team does not cover the point spread there are always more prop bets to keep viewing appealing to the games conclusion. I don't know many who bet on basketball/baseball/hockey like they do football. Most games today drag on too long and one has to economize ones time. TV ads must be broadcast,beer/hotdogs and other related concession products must be sold at the stadium for revenue to the captive audience. So from that standpoint team mgt. doesn't care how long a game takes. Length of games helps the bottom line.

I believe it has been discussed here before, but all the Fantasy Football is probably at the heart of watching for most people. historically, people follow one Team closely and the rest based on how it will affect that one Team. this new "invention" causes fans and previously casually interested people to follow/watch because they feel an investment in the outcome of games. how often do you find yourself switching between games or watching a game only because the QB is your guy that day??

football for me used to be an all-day Sunday thing, and it may get back to that when I retire. right now I have one day off each week and I refuse to dedicate a large part of that to the boob-tube for five months, too much to do and too much to enjoy. of course, the way Cleveland has been playing influences that a little bit!!

right now, though, I'll ride the Cavs express every other day and watch some of the other Teams. last night I followed the Cavs vs. Raptors game with one quarter of Rockets vs. Suns. I had forgotten just how quick James Harden was and how much he can influence a game, but I gotta sleep.....................

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

the Golden State Warriors are in after a sweep, the game was over midway through the first quarter, GSW couldn't miss and Utah could make a shot to save their own skin. very strange for a Team on the brink of elimination.

  • galaxy27galaxy27 Posts: 7,895 ✭✭✭✭✭

It pains me to say this, because I love the guy on and off the court. So much so that I've seen 75-80 of his games this season. But the only way to honestly and effectively describe what I witnessed tonight is to say that James Harden looked like he was on the take from the opening tip. I'm so completely flummoxed right now. I can't recall a single time when I felt this way after a game, and I've been watching sports for decades.

galaxy, that is **EXACTLTY ** the thought I had when the third quarter was underway.

  • galaxy27galaxy27 Posts: 7,895 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm still incredulous. Mind you, all of the following happened in an elimination game. At home. With Parker out. With Leonard out. If someone had laid $100 on the Spurs to win by 39 last night, they probably would have driven a new Maserati to lunch today. To put it into perspective:

    • Harden was 2nd in PPG in the reg season at 29.1, averaging almost 19 shots and 11 free throws per game.

    • Last night he didn't attempt his first FG until there was 6:18 left in the second quarter. He shot the ball twice the entire first half. I can't believe I just typed those two sentences.

    • In the regular season he attacked the cup with reckless abandon, night in and night out. Either he was going to put the ball in the hole, or he was going to get hacked to pieces while doing so and end up at the stripe.

    • Last night I lost track of how many times he entered the lane on a dribble-drive and then decided to make an inexplicable hail mary pass out of it. Throwing the ball out of bounds, passing it directly to a Spur, tossing it up for grabs.........watching him last night was like being married for 30 years, then waking up to some chick you've never seen before in your life.

This postseason has been one of the worst in recent memory, but last night took it to a completely different level. I just feel gross now.

I am curious what the fan reaction and media coverage has been in Houston. they had to see the same thing we did.
