I used to own that 4th series 1973 baseball rack (sans BBCE wrap).

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

There was a 75 wax tray pack? Man I missed that one.

    There's also a '77 wax tray.

  • Surprised those 75' Baseball Racks are still there considering you don't see them pop up much! Anxious to see what they'll have at the National!

    One left now....

  • I was flip flopping on the PSA 9 Dawson Cello and when I went back, it was sold. Grats to the buyer!

You don't see them pop up much?!?!?! I picked up around 40 of them in the past year so you must not be looking hard enough!! :)B)

Those look pretty nice. If I pull a monster card out of REA or Heritage mine are going to be up for sale as well :D

One regular and one mini, but I think the regular is already spoken for by a board member. Very rare to have two HOF's showing.

40??? That's a lot of brittle plastic. I think what he is saying is BBCX does not put up 75 racks very often

I have to agree, I always thought of 1975 as among the most common years for racks and cellos relative to every year before and 1976 at least.

Would be fun but even if you got both Aaron and Ryan you would be upside down.

Well, it's not really 'fetching' that. They had that box at the National last year, I think with a $70K ask. I think they've had it for sale for several years - the asking price goes up but it doesn't change hands.
Still, whatever the true value is where someone would buy, it's worth more than my entire collection

I am waiting on the 74 and 75 racks...tuff to pass up. With this 75 rack I have now picked up about 50 of them in the past year :#

    Lol.

This specific box has traded hands a few times. The current consignor apparently is in no rush to sell. He'd still get a nice return in it even if he dropped the asking price to something a bit more in sync with the current market (the top of the market where a box like thus would fetch well into the 70s is already behind us for now).

Now if it were a box of the rare 1971 packs in leftover 1970 wrappers I think $79k might actually be a bargain....

One sold a few years ago (prior to the run up) for about $25k

I handled the sale of the prior box a few years ago. It sold for $30k.
I had them on an episode of "A Piece of the Game" in Steve's store.
That box was ungraded and had nowhere near the star power this box does.
I have handled these and they are amazing. The Clemente & Rose packs are so clean.
They had been listed on Ebay within the last year for $50k.
I'm thinking Steve bought them in the high $30 to low $40k range or else
they are selling them on consignment. Either way nice little profit on some very
    nice packs.

wow--amazing box. Bet we could do a group rip if we tried

would allow us to test the cello pack star pricing we discussed in the other thread

  • BaltimoreYankeeBaltimoreYankee Posts: 3,025 ✭✭✭✭✭

That lot of 1967 cello packs is just incredible. I would love to own it and would trade my entire collection for it but would still need to throw in a lot of cash.

Unopened stuff is on fire right now. Just recently sold several racks for extremely strong prices - 1976 with 2 HOF's showing - Palmer and Gossage, and a 1975 Topps mini rack. Plus have a deal worked out for a 1975 regular rack with Bench and Palmer showing. Combination of buying a few items and freeing up some cash along with very strong offers you can't turn down.
