HI end PWCC auctions

Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone has purchased any of the hi end PWCC set's that are auctioned off on a regular basis ? If so, what were your thoughts on the ungraded cards ? Were they pretty uniform with the graded cards, or were they substantially lower grade ? I'm not asking anyone to slam them, just want your honest opinion as I'm considering spending up quite a bit above what I would normally spend on a set, and I wonder if I am more or less paying for the graded cards.

Thanks,

jeff

I recently purchased a set and the raw cards we accurately described. I was worried about that as well. The good news is they have a return policy so if you deem the cards that are raw not to be as described just return them. Good luck.

I've consigned about 10 or so 1960s-early 1970s baseball sets to them, and I thought their description of the nongraded cards were accurate. As a seller, I had no complaints, and as a buyer, I would have had no complaints.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

I have won several PWCC auctions. Try bidding higher than everyone else, that usually works for me. LOL

I won a 1952 Bowman PSA 5 Bowman Mantle that had the H.E. designation. I overpaid but am extremely happy with
the card. I've compared to a lot of other 52 Bowman's.

That's great news about the sets. I had always wondered too.

When they started getting cute with their set descriptions some consignors stopped sending them sets.

What exactly does "getting cute with their set descriptions" refer to? Just curious where the cuteness is.

And judging by the stuff they are consistent;y posting, they are not losing a lot of consignors

That card is awesome. The technical grade doesn't matter to me as much as the eye appeal and centering, and that is a beauty. I don't think you overpaid. You paid the price of an average PSA 6 and I'd take yours over just about all the 6's out there. Nice pickup

I agree Tim - that is a sweet 52 Mantle. I know we joke about the PWCC-HE designation, but I have picked up a couple of them and have been very pleased with the cards I received.

I ended up passing on the Hi end 75 set that they had up. I think it went for around 980. I had estimated it had around 600 in resale value in graded cards alone, but didn't want to spend that much on the ungraded cards. I had a bid for 920 in. I did end up winning the low-mid grade 68 set they had though. So, it will probably be easier for me to be satisfied, as I am not going to be expecting NR/MT+ and Mint cards, and I ended up winning it for what I thought was for a fair price.

KC, that's a heckuva Mantle RC. Well done.

Agree that some of the HE are super nice cards or the grade. I've bought a few myself. However, some HE are over hyped as well imho. Then there's the laughable "HIGH END" on this Probstein auction. Sure, it's "HIGH END" if you ignore all the missing borders, two vertical creases through the face, and burn mark in the eye.

  • I have bought some nice cards from PWCC and came as they were shown.
In fact, I just did my 1st consignment to Brent and my T206 Cobb 3.5 will be in it this Apr27-May20.

Thanks Dan. After reading this post I took out the 51 and 56 Mantles last night when I got home to view them in person. Really lucky with the 51 pickup - looking at it last night the card still has the original gloss and the corners are 8's. First ever Bowman card for me :D

Everything that I have bought from PWCC has been just as advertised. Those purchases includes both graded and raw cards.
