U didn't scan what type of ball or whats on the ball itself.
So u can determine first if its the right era ball
psa does have sample sigs on their website.
Right type of ball, story sounds good. But it's Babe so don't wanna waste 300 if I don't have too, but not gonna buy without PSA's stamp of approval. But it's gonna be my 300 gamble not theirs
The first thing I noticed was how bold it was for being 70 years old. That would be a red flag for me, however with a chance to own a ruth auto, I'd spend the money and gamble.
Unfortunately, this is a classic secretarial signature, a style that most experts believe to be the work of Ruth's primary nurse during his cancer battle.
Many baseballs and photos were signed by her during this time in order to meet the demand from fans, etc. So, technically, it is from the period, just not signed by Ruth himself. Ruth was the kind of guy who never wanted to let anyone down when it came to signing autographs, but his declining health was making it tough to keep up the pace.
You can find quite a few examples of these secretarial signatures online.
Many years ago, these were once believed to be authentic. While this non-malicious effort is a decent one, you can definitely tell the difference if you study his signature enough. Right up until his death, Ruth's real signature still possessed his classic characteristics.

Smitty ... very nice of Joe to post on the thread and save you $300.00.
STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Fantastic to have Joe chime in here and save the authentication fees for the collector. Kudos!
BUYING Frank Gotch T229 Kopec Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
More frequent visits by Joe or another PSA rep to clear up simple questions would be great too. I'm not asking for very genourous freebies like Smittys got (though that would be GREAT!). That is above and beyond. But simple issues could be cleared up. Maybe even an ask PSA section on the board with an active PSA rep to field softballs. I know there is always email but a reference source to check first would be great. I know that a lot of people here are also very knowledgeable but a diffinitive answer straight from the horses mouth is always best. Right Smittys? Let's see the horse again.
That's awesome that Mr. Orlando took time out of his busy day to help out another collector. Just goes to show that what we type on the boards, if done tastefully/respectfully, the right people on the inside see it.

300 seems super cheap for a Ruth signed ball.
300 is the cost to authenticate, if fake I'm out 300 plus shipping insurance etc.
Not buying for 300
if its real ..its a strong signature ...but i wouldn't buy without PSA APPROVAL ,,,,

That is a nice bold sig!
"You have the funds available for a signed Babe Ruth ball, but not for a $300 "gamble" (as you put it)?"
I'd like a little input from people before possibly throwing away 300.00
Funds to buy have nothing to do with it.
..
Why not get a quick opinion first? That would seem to minimize the risk of sending it in for $300 because quick opinion is $10. https://www.psacard.com/store/t-quickopinionebay.aspx
Called PSA they won't do a quick opinion on Babe Ruth

As a collector I still think this is a cool piece. Anybody know what the value is on a ball like this? I wouldn't mind owning one.
Nice looking ball. I have an authentic signature on paper and it's different. Also it's faded a little and the paper is also faded. Good luck. Ray
