This is one of the tougher dates from the 1880's for this series. It's mintage is not as low as the very popular 1880, which only had 1600 minted, but is much tougher to find. The PCGS pop report shows 48 in MS65 and only 22 higher (NGC is 19 in MS65 and 28 higher). That compares with the 1880 at 76 in MS65 and 183 higher. And the 1880 sells for a much higher price!
This coin shows semi-prooflike luster throughout with some very cool die clashes, particularly on the reverse.
The last two that sold on Heritage were between $1300 and $1650.
