Mr. (or Mrs.) Deefree, not sure where you uncovered this old cert. but this is my coin and yes, it was mistakenly graded once as an MS coin a while back. It happily resides in a PR65RB holder with a CAC bean. MPL confirmed, nice eye. Carry on......

Hi there Lusterlover! deefree = David. So it is "Mr." deefree to you, sir! lol.
A small group of MPL enthusiasts were looking at coins that might be misattributed and yours was one we felt strongly about. Apparently we got it right and I'm glad for you that it resides in a proper holder.
I might be pretty good at spotting MPLs but my grading isn't to be too strongly trusted - that being said - I think your coin looks better than a 64! I think you might consider sending that little gem in for an upgrade.

Where can one find info on determining the differences between MPL's and business strike lincolns
Two books are dedicated to MPLs, and both have nice images:

There is a thread going in the Registry section with links to some pictures and some of the characteristic die lines of matte proof Lincoln cents.
2 good books:
1) A Study of Matte Proof Lincoln Cents : 1909 - 1916 / Carl B. Waltz Jr.
2) Lincoln Cent Matte Proofs / Kevin Flynn
There was a pamphlet written about 35 years ago where the certification of Matte Proofs really got serious for the first time. I haven't been able to locate it but it was written by Leonard Albrecht. It may have been sanctioned by the ANA but I'm not too solid on those facts about it. Robec knows more about it I believe.
Finally - Just look at pictures of them on the internet wherever you can find them. Becoming familiar with their specific appearance comes with seeing them over and over again. After awhile, you can become pretty good at it, just by repeated viewing.
The article referred to in the above post is:
L. Albrecht/"Matte Proof Lincoln Cents, 1909 – 1917" [in the October 1983 Numismatist] There are also reprints floating around.

I found my copy on eBay a few years ago for $10. They appear from time to time.

There actually is a way you can get the Albrecht article if you are an ANA member. Register on their site with your number and you can access all the previous back issues of their monthly publication. This is free if you are a member.
Thank you to my friends Alynne and Andy from Angel Dee's Coins for informing me this is available. Sounds like a nice perk for membership in the ANA. Although this was mentioned earlier in the thread, for convenience, it was in the October, 1983 issue.
