I just watched 202 Chinese Cash pieces sell for $50,000+. I don't have words.
One auction can't speak to the market, but wow. Everything I looked at made it seem like I was bidding using 1950's pricing.

Holy cow!!! On a top estimate of $500? Really neat old albums too, but wow. I know very little about cash coins but I'm guessing some kind of rarity (or several) were tucked in there and recognized. I mean, there are some low estimates out there, but not by two orders of magnitude...
To be honest, the estimates on all of the cash coins were just there to have a number as an "estimate." IMO, they were not based on anything specific. One lot had 26,000+ cash pieces and it had the same estimate as all of the others. There is not a good way to give such collections a value. That particular lot was the one I singled out as the best of the group and pursued it as such. But, I only could go by the pictures and descriptions. I would love to see the entirety of that lot. Having said that, the final sale price is still at least 30-40 times my wildest potential estimate.

I guess they weren't kidding in the description: "Close personal inspection is advised and will reward the diligent bidder. "

The first coin on the last photo might be a rare coin. Can't really ID it from photo.
