Married professional athletes that cheat on their wives?

25%?
50%?
75%?
Everyone but Maddux?

Tiger Woods was the good family man, but alas, he had over a dozen mistresses.

Magic Johnson was pretty wholesome, yet cheated on Cookie.

Kobe had to shell out $4,000,000 for a diamond ring to appease his scorned wife. That plus a huge settlement and immense legal fees.

What are the odds that by the end of April the entire first page of the Sports Talk Forum is cluttered with Mglicker threads about various inane topics of discussion? 25%? 35%? 110%? Place your bets, LOL..

After an enforced absence it would seem best to lay low. Although judged by some standards 5 threads on page one of every forum might actually be his idea of that.

A parting thought though. It is apparent that 9 threads in 22 days is a bit overwhelming on this robust and stimulating forum.

I'd like though to explain the nuanced relevancy of this topic.

It is an offshoot of Craig's Maddux thread. As he bows at the alter of the great pitcher, he leaves no room for the possibility that the man may not be a saint.

All we have in sports is the belief that every participant from the owner on down to the bench warmers to the zebra wearing officials are 100% honest and above reproach. If we don't believe that, the fantasy collapses and we are stuck picking weeds with our wives on a Sunday afternoon.

Yet, much evidence is available that a great number of these demigods have no regard for the oath that they have taken with the most important person in their lives......their spouses, and their children.

Is it possible to follow the rules of one endeavor and trash the vows of another. I doubt it.

I am somewhat amused that you felt the need to start a new thread related to this topic. Funny.

I am not sure why you think I bow at any athlete's altar or that any athlete is my "hero". Again, how shallow would that be. I am a fan of some players and that is all. And that could change if future revelations were revealed that were negative. I don't think maddux or any other person is a saint. Those are all you words and your hyperbole.

I simply like to look at evidence and statistical data to analyze players careers. My methodology may not be perfect, but it's pretty good. You seem to prefer to use conjecture and guessing to arrive at who may and may not have juiced. That is fine too, but don't expect guessing to hold much water in a discussion.

Yea I couldn't care less who does what in their personal lives as long as it don't include harming children or battering woman they can do whatever they need to do as far as I'm concerned and I will still root for them to win games for the Pats or Sox

I understand about 50% of marriages suffer from cheating. Pro athletes are away from home a lot. They have women throwing themselves at them. They have peer pressure when teammates brag about who and how many they are doing. I would think for pro athletes to be faithful they need much inner strength, perhaps strong faith, and a desire to never hurt the real love of their life.

I'd venture a guess that it's pretty rampant. Guys in their 20s with tons of cash, away from home a lot...it's called temptation, and no doubt pretty hard to stay cool. Of course the reverse could be true as well...hubby gone on a 6 day road trip, I think temptation in those lifestyles can easily go both ways.

Oddly, in today's Atlanta Journal, there is an article about Chipper Jones telling about his uber-mea culpa to his wife about 3 chicks in different cities he was having affairs with...one became pregnant and had his child, which, while he opted to support, he chose not to see the child...now there's a real sport. Of course he's still a fan favorite, and you see him at Braves camp and on local Braves news like he hasn't got a care in the world. Perhaps today's article will lessen his appeal. Yup, lots of screaming and tears!!
