Crossover from NGC or Anacs to PCGS?

Been working on a few registry collections, and had not really thought about looking at nicer NGC or ANACS coins and using the "cross-over" they are marketing sobring into registry. Sometimes have found a real good coin and value in a ngc holder and have passed, but now thinking if its a real good value, this would be worth doing esp. in classic commemoratives. As a newbie still learning, and wonder what posters experiences have been or any suggestions good or bad would greatly be appreciated.

thanks in advance!

If you search a little bit, you can probably find a hundred threads on this topic already.

But the coin, not the holder. Cross if you think the coin is a keeper. I've had success with both NGC and ANACS to our host, often at grade or even getting a + bump, because I took the time to look for outstanding coins--coins that just happened to be in some other holder that I wanted in PCGS for my registry.

I've said it elsewhere on these boards--there are many diamonds in the rough if you're willing to take the time and look. If you know your series and grading and toning, etc., you can find coins out there that fit your bill (you should buy the coin because its a great coin first) and that could also cross. Some suggest just buying PCGS but I think that limits your options. On the other hand, you must also consider the cost of crossing and also potential failure to cross (unless you're willing to take a 1-point grade cut, for example). But many on these boards have correctly argued that the pricing premium for PCGS over the others can make that a fair trade.

I agree there are many threads on this topic that I've seen over the past 3 years that I've been here. Good luck!

Just crack them if you are sure they are problem free.

I have had the experience with one of the two third party graders that the OP referred to...that they will slab coins that PCGS will not...under the umbrella of "market acceptable" or "net grading"....so personally I do not crack out my cross overs...if they won't cross to PCGS at the same grade or one lower...I throw them back on the market...

By example...I had a beautiful classic gold coin in a high grade that had even had a CAC sticker...that PCGS would not straight grade because of a small scratch...I saw the mark in question...but assumed it was a result of contact...not man-made since CAC had passed it...perhaps others would have argued...I just dumped it at a modest loss...live and learn...
