It's about time. Most all EAC guys believe there is no such coin as a mint state 1831 Half Cent.
PCGS has finally removed it from the Set Registry.
I believe all 1831 Half cents were made as Proofs.
What do you think ?

I don't know. PCGS has certified 19 Original 1831 Half Cents, 8 in Mint State (all 58 and under), and 11 in Proof (2 in 58 and under). Thus the total for 1831 is 19 graded Originals of which 10 (or 53%) are 58 and under. This seems like a very high rate of attrition compared with Original Half Cents for 1836, 1840 to 1848, and 1849 Small Date. The numbers for those:
1836 - - 31 graded, 3 58 & under
1840 - - 15 graded, 3 58 & under
1841 - - 44 graded, 7 58 & under
1842 - - 8 graded, 1 58 & under
1843 - - 24 graded, 1 58 and under
1844 - - 14 graded, 2 58 & under
1845 - - 10 graded, 0 58 & under
1846 - - 12 graded, 0 58 & under
1847 - - 12 graded, 1 58 & under
1848 - - 15 graded, 1 58 & under
1849 Small Date - - 8 graded, 0 58 & under
Total 1836 - 1849 Small Date - - 193 graded, 19 58 & under (10%)
So I am wondering why only 10% of the graded 1836 - 1849 Small Date Original Half Cents are grade 58 & under, compared with 53% of the 1831 Original Half Cents. Is there any reason anyone can think of as to why this would be the case?

I see it as great news, and I tried to get it changed a few years ago, but was told that they had a discussion, after my request, and kept it in because no one wanted to be conclusive that they were all proofs.
I'm glad it is out....now, they need to ALSO REMOVE it from the 1/2c everyman's set....
