Bigkid Completes His '64 Topps Giants Set - Moves Into Third Place

Nice job Bigkid! You're only the third person on the Registry to finish the set completely graded. Of course I'm sure there's an upgrade or two waiting for you out there...image

By the way, why is Sealboy's #1 set still listed under the current finest. I thought he sold that?

I know once a set is sold, the previous owner must remove his/her name from the set under the current finest list, but what about the all time finest list? Example: say the person he sold it to registers the set under his/her own name (without making any changes to the set). Lets call this set "slacker set". Now will there be two sets (sealboy #1 and slacker set) listed under the all-time finest list with the same GPA and weight? Essentially the same exact cards? This can't be the case, right?

BobS, regarding the first question neither the seller nor the buyer has left feedback yet. Perhaps the deal is not complete yet.

On the second question (good question) I'm not really sure what's going to happen. It will be interesting to see how the Registry handles it.

BIGKID - Congrats! I'll hopefully join you soon once my set gets completed. I gotta get back into the mix, I only added 1 card in the last few months. GEMMINT wouldn't allow me to win any.

BOBS - 2 sets can't be registered with the same cards. Set #1 must be deleted by the owner before the new owner decides to register the cards. This is also true regarding 1 card that is listed on the registry, not just sets. Also, I don't think you can just switch the name on a set, you must add each card to the registry 1 by 1, in case of the '64 Giants, thats not too bad w/ only 60 cards. ...jay

So you're saying that sealboys #1 set will be dropped from the all time finest list if the new owner want's to register it? Then what's the point of the all time finest list. It has been brought up here before that the all time finest list represents sets that "at one time were assembled, but may have been broken up or sold or whatever. So what happens when an all time finest set gets broken up and the new owners wish to register the cards. You can't have the same card registered in two different sets, can you. So the all time finest list, in my opinion, has a serious flaw. If someone spends years and countless $'s on a great set which becomes one of the all time finest sets for that year, to maintain that status the set can never be broken up. so why even have an all time finest? Anyone else understand me? I'm having trouble with comprehensible thoughts this morning.

    Charlie - Any insight?

    Hey Jeff,

When I suggested (on another thread) you concentrate on up-grading your Giants set, I didn't mean on the cards I still need image Nice pick up on the Milt. By the way, do you know who Kep13 is? He's getting a little pesky on the 8's lately. It still blows me away people will shell out over $30 plus $4-5 shipping for common 8's. I will stick to my budget, I will stick to my budget, I will stick to my budgetimage

Congratulations on the completion. That 100% is certainly a magic number.

  • When you delete a set from the registry, it frees up all of the cards so that others can register them. If the set if above 90% complete, then it stays on the "All-Time Finest" list. I had a 1955 Topps set that was > 90% complete when I decided to change direction on my collecting... it shows up under the "All-Time" list but not the "Current", and the cards have been dispersed among many of the "Current" sets....

So the answer is yes, the same card can be listed twice (at least) on the set registry. Once for a current finest set and once (or multiple times) on an all time finest set. Thanks JH.
