Any Medieval Italian Coin Experts here ?

Forgive me for being a newb when it comes to this area of numismatics but...

If you were going to try to put together a complete collection of coins from the period 900 through 1600 for Naples/Amalfi/Salerno what would be the best reference book to purchase ?

This will get you most of the way there:

Biaggi, Elio. "Monete e Zecche Medievali Italiane dal Sec. VIII al Sec. XV". Turin 1992

I just discovered that what appears to be the entirety of Corpus Nummorum Italicorum is online in downloadable PDF format:

    numismaticadellostato.it/web/pns/iuno-moneta/biblioteca/corpus

This is the king of Italian coin references.

Nothing that I'm aware of for that time period and those particular states.

Time to enroll in a beginning Italian course at your local community college.

Also, Google translate is your friend.

Not quite lol. I have a translator in Italy who has translated over 1000 pages of ancient historical docs for me already. I was hoping not to have spend the money on him just to assemble the collection.

I plan on donating it to a new museum in Italy...

Thank you for the assistance though. Im just to going to have to figure it out somehow.

There is a google translate app now that lets you use your camera (I have it on my tablet) and then will translate a page for you if you are using a paper book. If you know any Italian at all then the app will likely get you 80-90% of what you need if not more. I've not tried it with Italian so I can't swear to it.

In the Apple Store I typed in google translate and it was the second one. Top middle if this photo adds correctly.

Edited to add, top middle is right. It's free and no harm in trying it out.

There is also a Facebook group called Numismatica Italiana. Be warned, however, that its membership is almost exclusively Italian coin people, but several of them have passable English language skills if you have a specific question on something. I do not speak Italian (actually, a tiny bit only) but get by just fine there.

How does one get a hater to stop hating?
