eBay, morals, and inaccurate listings.

I'm having a bit of a dilemma when it comes to eBay and other sellers. My handling time is ASAP, same day or no later than two days.

I have noticed a pattern lately of sellers listing things as 1-3 days handling time AND priority shipping.
When 10 or more days passes wth no delivery, then a first class package eventually arrives I find myself getting angry or annoyed.

I really dislike lies and dishonest behavior. I belive if you give your word you should stick to it.

Which brings me to my dilemma. What kind of feedback would you leave for a seller that does not: ship on time, ship as described, or respond to communication?

This situation has occurred 6 times in March with a few different sellers.

I don't enjoy leaving less than positive feedback. And I don't want to over react.
advice?

Even if it says Priority mail with $2.67 shipping you should be expecting first class mail. It also states his handling time as up to three days, if you don't like it then don't bid on the item. With it being a $19 sale plus $2.67 shipping it wouldn't make any sense to send it priority which doesn't start until $6.65 and then fees on top of it.
If I like the item I am leaving positive feedback.

$2.67 is NOT a Priority Shipping fee, that is minimum First Class, an apparent typo on the sellers part. The only thing I can think of that would bring this to their attention is contact them directly and see if there some form of compensation for the lack of timeliness. Otherwise "gig em'" on shipping time with your feedback.

I would need more than late shipping to leave less than positive 5 star feedback.

  • davewesendavewesen Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭✭✭

Drop some stars, but not necessarily a negative.

On a side note, I have been mostly free shipping, 1 day shipping to get the 20% ebay discount. When that drops to 10%, I will forget about trying to keep that.

Pour yourself a glass of wine and get over it. You are expecting way too much on a $19 item.

I agree, $2.67 is the standard padded mailer rate but you should still get a tracking number. I wouldn't neg, but definite less that 5-star for the shipping time.

It's not that I expect too much, in my opinion, it's that I expect sellers to pay attention to their listings and be ACCURATE and honest.

I don't care as (much) about shipping being priority or first class, but to say 3 days handing, and a full week to pass wth no action, is just wrong to me. In addition I have messaged the sellers, orders above, and both have entirely ignored me and requests for info.

I dont belive the final price should have ANY influence on the quality of service or handling time. Whether I pay $19 or $190 or $1900.

I make the same effort to ship items that sell for $4.97-$250.

They should ship same day if possible; respond to all reasonable emails; describe items accurately. You can also report your concerns internally with ebay customer service.

Sold and paid on Friday, Mar 17th. Seller promises to ship within 3 business days. Should have been mailed no later than yesterday. So he's only a little behind his promise (so far).

I'd not give him 5 stars for shipping time. Certainly not a negative (unless it is really, really late shipping or some other major problem).

I had something similiar to this when I shipped an F-150 mirror to Nevada. It was off the radar for over two and a half months and insurance paid out already when he sent me a picture with the box completely destroyed and the mirror busted. Maybe it'll show up.

Agreed. For the sake of clarity, I never leave bad feedback unless the item is totally fake/deceptive/ not as described or the seller abusive, belligerent.

One less star or two is as far as I would take it in situations like this generally. Yet this has happened at least 6 times this month, with over a week handling time. The examples I posted pics above are not as delinquent as a few other orders lately.
I totally understand getting busy. I do too. But I send a note or respond to inquiries.
The message I send after 6 days is this:
"Hello, I just wanted to check on the shipping status of this order"

Lol my phone even autopopulates or predicts these words after I just... :D

    I agree.

I feel the same way about refunds. Why a seller feels he should sit on it for a week (after a very prompt payment) mystifies me.

total agreement. however, few people even care about giving their word. it means nothing to them. sad.

i think that if you give your word on something you better come through. if you can't for some unforeseen reason, you need to make it up to the customer somehow.

I can tell you from experience that when using a mobile device to list on eBay that many little drop down boxes change things you have entered .. Especially when you save a listing and go back to it later.. I spend way more time than I should making sure eBay listings are correct after I listed them because of this...

I always tell people that some days eBay is the best place on earth and others I just want to smash my head against a wall because of how difficult certain things can be...

Take the good with the bad and call it even is how I play it... Happy bidding LoL.

    Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,

I still don't have the one paid for on the 16th. Seller gave an excuse last week. Seemed reasonable. Nothing at all this week. They ignored the last two requests for info. I'm wondering if they got hacked or don't know how to handle business. With a feedback score of over 1,000 I'm a bit surprised with the terrible service. Talk about regrettable purchases. Yikes.

    Your comment is irrelevant.
This thread is not about patience. It's about inaccurate listings and sellers not meeting their agreements. And how to appropriately handle the situation and leaving feedback.

Going on the third full week with no delivery, no reply (8 days), no refund. Avoid this seller. Must have been hacked or something. Others have not been so patient. What bugs me is that some people did get their stuff while others didn't. Seller claimed almost cut thumb off two weeks ago, then sent a message last weekend saying was at post office mailing.

    The problem with leaving any buyer a negative on ebay, now that ebay has made it impossible for a seller to leave a bad or dishonorable buyer the same, is;

one or two of them can target you with multiple accounts and destroy a pristine and stirling seller's account.

    Proceed with caution.

Do you mean that for example, if I left bad feedback as a buyer for a bad seller, they could use other accounts to buy from me then leave bad feedback in retaliation?

I don't care about the shipping times unless I need something in a hurry and then I'll make sure before I buy that is going to arrive when I expect it.

My last 30 items bought have arrived so fast makes me wonder if they were shipped from next door sometimes

Didn't you get the memo? Alternative facts are now acceptable. About the most you can do is let your dissatisfaction be known through feedback as ebay will turn a deaf ear to you.

Yep....nothing new. Some eBay sellers and buyers can be very petty.

Is it ok to make a separate account to buy then? Do most sellers or buyer-sellers have separate accounts?
How does that work with PayPal, bank accounts, and eBay? Do they also open separate PayPal accounts?
