A quiz for those who are into early 70s unopened and want to test their knowledge on what is real versus fake (Tim and Manny should wait until others have had the chance to give answers).
Name at least 3 reasons why a 1970 Topps BB fanatic and unopened fanatic like me would be passing on the 1970 Topps Rack (Ryan showing in top) currently on eBay.

Agree with clockwork.
I will wait for others to chime in but I'm thinking maybe Ryan in wrong section, GAI in general and/or mixed series? Possibly wrong header card?
My question is: Do you think the seller has any idea if it's bad? He or she is also selling other packs including PSA graded packs.
I will agree with others in Ryan being in the wrong section, the seam beside the Ryan looks melted, and the header card has the wrong kind of punch.

Topps did not begin utilizing the crosshatch punch hole in the header card until the 4th series in 1971. All 1970 racks should bear a header card with a large circular punch hole. Invariably, when you see an aberration like this it is with a star card on top.

I thought you were forbidden to answer...?

LOL. I was only following up on maddux' post. I will now return to my corner.

Too bad Jeopardy does not have a section called Topps Unopened questions from 1970-79 - one daily double and Tim would be the champ for a week on that show! For the board newbies buying anything unopened frok Tim is similar to getting something wrapped from BBCE. Same can be said for Dave if he would sell some stuff
this rack was actually in my collection until 2015. I forget where I got it--early 2000 from 1 of the big AHs----but consigned it to PWCC. There was a separate thread on the racks in that consignment as several were questionable. Brent made mention of the fact that this rack was probably not a legit Topps issue.
1st linky is to the eBay auction

Well, that would answer my question from above if the current seller is the winner of the PWCC auction.
Tim and Manny were not forbidden. They are both recognized experts, so I requested they hold off and see what the experts-in-training might come up with.

Getting tougher to replace things you sell off, but if the offer is attractive enough (and my wife finds out about it) you might actually have some leverage.

Does anyone have a pic of a legit rack pack?
Just asked the seller from where he obtained the rack. Waiting for his response.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Here is one (original price sticker still attached) with correct punch hole for 19070 Topps baseball:

Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972
looks like the ebay pack sold for the opening bid
Dang, those pics bring back memories...
I was going to answer:
1) Topps didn't produce baseball cards in 1970
2) Nolan Ryan never played for the Mets
3) The crosshatch punch-hole thingy
