I'm a fan of die cracks and thought this was interesting. Is this die crack common?
I don't know much about these large cents, but I liked it enough to seriously consider buying it.

Seems to be an 1840 large date N-9 R3
with the bisected die crack from below S4
to S11. Perhaps MDS, die state d, or a bit
later. It may be MS63-64, with some nicks
and hairlines, but a nice example in brown
and the die crack is common to this
variety. The stars are more finished than
some examples, but the dentils are a bit
mushy. The portrait is known to have
concentric circles of raised die lines, or
pantograph lines evident on some examples.

nice coin
Bisecting die cracks are seen from time to time on large cents. In most cases, the cracked die held together long enough to produce coins with parallel sides. One of my 1798 large cents features a bisecting obverse die crack with the bottom half tilted away from the top half.

Very nice example.
Though I have many with extensive cracking around the peripheries, the only one with even a partial bisecting crack I own is a die state II 1839 N-1.

Nice coin indeed!

Love the coin as well; purchased this 1839/6 for my countermarked date set:
Mine (N-7) (64 CAC) doesn't have the die crack (mine is an early die state), but I love the clean design before the large letter reverse came into play in later years.

lovely images and coin. NOT very often and not often enough do we get to see that frosty white luster like that from images; especially on copper.
