Ok. We are now live with the break. Please reserve your slots in this thread. If there are any questions pertaining to the break please post here or PM me and I will respond as quickly as possible. I know the price of this break is higher than the 86 break but there are actually much better odds in this one. There are three jackpot cards: Jerry West PSA 8 $3507.88, Wilt PSA 7 $2,539, Oscar Robertson PSA 7 $2522.65 and only 66 slots, so a 1 in 22 shot at getting a card with VCP value over $2500. There are a total of 14 cards with VCP values over $170 so there is a better than 1 in 5 chance at hitting one of those.

Thanks for taking part!

PRICE PER SLOT: $225 PP Friends and Family/$233 PP Goods/Invoice

START TIME: The break is live now and you can reserve slots in this thread. For maximum inclusion, for the first 24 hours there will be a limit of 2 slots per person. After the first 24 hours and for the next 24 hours, everyone can add one more slot. After 48 hours, you can request as many slots as you desire.

PAYMENT TERMS: Payment is expected as soon as the break ends, which is defined as when all the slots are claimed. I will update everyone’s total on the official break thread, so please wait for the total before sending payment. Payment is expected via PayPal and will be net to me. PayPal Friends and Family is preferred but if you want PayPal Goods please know that $8 (around 3.6%) will be added to the total to account for transactional costs.

RANDOMIZATION: After the break is paid for by all the participants I will announce a date/time where I will stream a live broadcast of the randomization of the break. I streamed the randomization results for the 1986 Fleer break and I think I learned something from that broadcast. I think I will use the same service, which was Ustream. I will post the link to the broadcast at the time of announcement.
Each slot purchased will be assigned a number 1-66 by the order of purchase, this list will be on the first page of the official break page once it goes live. I will try to update as frequently as possible as people are buying their slots. The slot numbers will then be put through the randomizer on Random.org and randomized seven times (lucky number 7 for someone). The seventh randomization will be the official break of the set and each slot will receive the card that matches their spot in the order of that final list.

SHIPPING: It is included with your slot price if your address is in the United States. If shipping to an international address you will have to pay whatever extra I am charged to ship to your address plus whatever duties are levied by your government,
NOTE: If you win any of the three cards valued over $2500 (Wilt, Robertson and West RC’s), you will be expected to pay more for shipping. You will pay the actual cost of shipping the card to you via USPS Express Overnight or USPS Registered Mail shipping with full insurance. If you think this is unfair and do not want to pay the extra shipping charges, let me know and I will gladly refund your slot and keep the card

INSURANCE: For everyone else, insurance will be optional. If you want insurance on your package I will add it to your total. Again, the cost will be the exact USPS charge for insurance that you request.

Below is the original thread post gauging interest and providing info:

I wanted to wait for the hockey break to fill before posting another break on here and I got jumped by the 89 Score break. So I figure I may as well throw another break option out here. In the words of legendary actor Troy McClure, you might remember me from such CU breaks as "1986 Fleer PSA 9: More than just MJ!" or "1975 Mini box: centering better than average!". Anyway, as many on here know, when I first got back in the hobby in 2012, this 1961 set project was the first graded focus I jumped on. It took me about 3 years to complete it and I have spent time and money upgrading it over time to its current composition. As a kid, I actually collected 1986 Fleer cards and put that set together as a high schooler. The 1961 Fleer set back then seemed like an impossible dream. I have been privileged to have had the opportunity to put this set together as an adult but the time has come for me to let go of the set. Work/life/changes in hobby focus have all conspired to lead me to this decision. I had a lot of fun with both the 1986 and 1975 breaks and it seemed like everyone who participated on here did too. So I will try my hand one more time with a CU break.

The 66 card set is complete and all PSA graded in 7 (47 of them), 7.5 (3) or 8 (16). Of the PSA 8 cards, 12 are HOFers including 4 HOF RC's of Jerry West , Oscar Robertson, Sam Jones and Wayne Embrey. The set topped out at #20 in the active registry and has since been pushed back to a current ranking of #24. The #1 ranked set is titled "More Stars Than In The Heavens" and I believe that to be apt. For those not familiar with the set, there are 66 total cards picturing 44 different players from 1-44. 22 of those 44 received a second In Action card in the set. Out of the 44 players in the set 24 are HOFers, including 13 HOF RC's and of the 22 In Action cards 17 were HOFers and 7 of them HOF Rookie Year cards. So in a random break like this, you have a 61% chance of getting a card of a HOFer. Of course, the biggest cards in the set are HOF RC's of Wilt Chamberlain (PSA 7), Oscar Robertson (PSA 8), Jerry West (PSA 8) and Elgin Baylor (PSA 7), Bill Russell (PSA 7), Sam Jones (PSA 8), Bob Cousy (PSA 8) and Al Attles (super condition sensitive #1 card, PSA 7).

Anyway, enough talking. I hope we get enough participants to make this break happen. If you are interested please post here so I can get an idea if this will work. The official reservation thread will be started this Saturday around 6pm Pacific in a new thread. Here is an explanation of the break along with scans. The scans are missing three cards: PSA 7 singles of Tom Gola, Bob Leonard and Jack Twyman IA. I will get scans of those up as soon as possible.

ECONOMICS OF THE BREAK:

These are the VCP AVG values of every card in the break as of 03/07/2017. The total value of the set cards is $14,628.18 for an average of $221.64. The mark up on this break is minimal as I believe I have seen averages between 15-25% for similar breaks. There are 11 cards valued over $200 so there is a 1 in 6 chance of hitting one and a 1 in 22 chance of hitting a card over $2500!

Thanks Dave! Some of them like the Hal Greer and Jerry West are candidates for bumps, IMO.

Steve, unless my eyes are deceiving me I think you omitted scans of #'s 41-44 which includes the all important #43 The Logo psa 8 (after #40 the next row starts with #61) :)

David, thanks for the heads up. Yes, you are correct. Don't know how I missed that the first time around. I am having a hard time editing the original post above with the line 41-44 in the correct spot, so I will just post it here. The Logo and a PSA 7.5 HOF RC of Len Wilkens (HOF as a coach and a player). Thanks again, now how many slots should I put you down for? ;)

Count me in for a slot. It's really the only way I will ever own one of the HOF rookies in such a high grade. Thanks, BC

A set break where 57 of the 66 participants take a loss according to VCP? Good luck!

CC, A set break like this is really just high stakes gambling to most of us. I understand there is a chance I get a dud, but man oh man if I hit the West, Wilt, etc...card it would instantly be one of the best cards in my collection. I would rather gamble here then to give MGM another $500.
