Failed 79 Gretzky SGC to PSA crossover. Data point for those interested.

First time trying to crossover.
Have an SGC 88 1979 Topps Gretzky that I submitted with minimum PSA 8 grade.

Thought it had a good chance but came back under minimum grade.

May help someone thinking of submitting a SGC to PSA crossover.

Cheers,
Chris

There looks to be a lot of room between the card and the insert, add that to the stain(?) on the back...

The PD/stain on the back probably held it from crossing. If not for that, I think you'd likely have been successful.

Yeah the stain (card stock stain?) is probably what prevented it.

Although I do wonder if the results would have been different had I cracked and raw subbed.

GOAT RCs are going to be scrutinized more closely regardless. On a crack and sub, either a straight 7 or 8ST would be my guess.

Just send it to PWCC's cleaner guy and you might have an 8.5 :dizzy:

Looks like a small diagonal surface wrinkle coming in from the right edge border lines in the area parallel to his glove. Also, the poppy seed type stain on the back will often be accompanied with dimpling on the front, and would be something that both SGC and PSA would need to account for in grading.

Similar experience for me. Had an OPC Gretzky rookie that SGC graded 7.5. Cracked it out and sent to PSA and it came back a 7. Probably not much difference between the two cards dollar-wise, but still lost .5 on the crossover.
