That Lou Brock was a nice hit among many 8's in 71/etc. Nice grades.

They refunded the minsizerq one didn't they?

Nice. Looks like you got a grader that wasn't afraid to hit the .5 button. imo, the 71's are what the .5 grades were made for.

Nice work, Mike! You come across the nicest raw sets from the 70s. I'm always jealous. Are you building any registry sets, or just flipping these?

Theoretically, I am buying nice raw sets, improving my one keeper set from each year incrementally and selling off the residual sets - with theoretically being the key word.

I tell myself it is cheaper than ripping wax, but since I never get around to selling......

That 1963 Baldschun is the #1 hardest card to find in the set in NM or better condition whether it's the slash or mottled version. It has a pop of 45 higher than a 6 (slash) and only 23 higher than a six(mottled)! Prices are scary high for a 7 or better even though they carry no weight.

  • Bosox1976Bosox1976 Posts: 8,550 ✭✭✭✭✭

This was the best of three decent slash Baldschun's I got in a raw ebay lot; was pretty sure it would be a 7 with three good corners on one (bottom right) with a touch. I might give it another shot with a bunch of those N6's. It really is a toughie.

Speaking of toughies, the 75 Claudell was very nice, as was the Gates Brown. The 75 Rose was an SGC 92 - so it might make another trip too.

Great looking cards. It seems you did quite well in turning your raw set finds into some high grades. I don't collect much BB, but the Carter and Williams must be nice hits. 40 year old Gem Mint cards of HOFers have to be pretty good. Nice eye!

Simply outstanding. The 76 Brock and Lynn are two of my all-time favorite cards. Great job!

As a side note, what an era! Look at those stirrups and lack of batting gloves. The way it should be (other than the warm-up jackets worn under the jerseys, I was never quite sure what that was all about).
