I've watched prices on these coins tumble...and pulled the trigger on this one at 50% less than what they were selling just 2 years ago. This is from the Osprey Collection (bought from Gerry Fortin Rare Coins).

Thought I'd share...and I'm at 91 coins (with 100 coins being my first major milestone target).

Congrats on the upgrade and I agree with TDN, cool set.
It's amazes me the many various ways people collect.
    Nice work.

I agree with @tradedollarnut nut, cool set. I also agree with @sparky64 that people collect in so many different, amazing ways. But let me add another comment: Sweet coin!

By the way, why the interest in 1869?

By the way, why the interest in 1869?

I built a birth-year set for my wife, son, and daughter -- all in Proof. It was a fun yet relatively short project. Decided to build an MS set for myself. Once again, a fun yet relatively short project. I then decided to build a complete MS 100-year set (e.g. I was born in 1969). Without much tumult I started, this time the focus being acquiring coins that match the look of the set, not only PQ in themselves. About 6 months into the project the gravity of what I started (finding an 1869 $5 or $10 until recently was a once-per decade kind of thing). About 8 coins into the project, Andy (Mr. Eureka) asked me why don't I collect world coins... the answer was simple, I don't know anything about them. Over some wine and more conversations I decided to learn more about world coins and "why not expand this collection to one that will likely not be completed for along time, if at all?" That was the genesis... the rest is kind of history. The goal of this set is to acquire at least 1 example (only business strikes, not proofs) from every country around the world that existed in 1869, in addition to completing a set of all business strike coinage from 1869.

I can say that once I acquire the 1869 Cal Frac BG-750, I will have completed my initial quest of US coinage (all business strikes plus Cal Fracs from 1869)...I am now looking at opportunistic upgrades -- coins that would enhance the overall appeal of the set, which I can acquire at reasonable price points. This 1869-S $20 was one example of this...there are probably a couple more I'd like to upgrade, but not many.

To provide context...here's the ranking in the Registry for 1869 w/Gold. Only 2 of us... and Mr. Eliasberg, here I come :)

I am now adding World coins to the set. This happens very sporadically and in bunches, since I've acquired most of the "major" countries and issues, I am no looking for needles in haystacks or very opportune upgrades. Here is my latest World addition (from the World forum) -- and MS64 Pop 1 I just made at PCGS.

Nice coin. And quite an undertaking.
I hope you don't find out there is a mistake on your birth certificate and you were actually born in 1970 :o
