Holy Grail 1974 Topps Card Finally Secured!!

It took forever but I finally tracked down this beauty for my 74 set:
As you all know, it was pulled early from production as Gene Simmons claimed he was not properly paid enough money. I would go into details of the story, but we all know it as card collectors.
In any event, I am so glad to finally finish my 74 set. I am, of course, still miffed at Topps (and also Uncle Gene for making this about $$$$) that they did not issue individual cards of these players in the traded set. That would have been epic!
Happy Laugh Friday!

Whoa!! Paul Stanley in the Bandit makeup!! Very rare indeed!!
Your KISStory knowledge is impressive!!
KISStory.......................that's pretty good.
I must admit I didn't realize he had changed his makeup.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
Hiya Matt
Congratulations! Not familiar with the set.
Big fan.
I like the card. Great to see the original 4 - I saw a concert on Axis from 2013 - in Germany.
The set was incredible - with recent players Thayer and Singer.
What's in the set?
I'll preface by saying outside of the hits, I dont know a ton about Kiss except Simmons is more in love with their memorabila than he is with women, and that's saying something.
That being said, I'm skeptical that this is a real thing.
Its a Photoshop job. I ran across it on the Internet and thought it was quite clever. So not real and just in jest.

Awesome! As noted above, its a fake but a clever play methinks on 74 Topps.
If you can actually see them live, they still put on a great show!
Matt
True! Gene Simmons does have the best KISS collection as well outside of anyone.

Now that's one rookie card I would love to own lol.
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED
.
I remember being a member of the KISS Army.
great card. Would like to own one myself.
Thanks,

1985 Topps Football (starting in psa 8) - #9 - started 05/21/06
The later-issued traded series could have the more known "catman" makeup as well. That pic of Peter above must have been from a photo shoot for the debut album, because I think that specific makeup look was for one day as a pro makeup artist applied it for him. Paul had already ditched the lone rangeresque bandit mask
Maybe later years of Topps could have included "Prospects" like 18 yr old Eric Carr, Vinnie V, Mark St. John, Bruce Kulick, Eric Singer, and Tommy. But Donruss might have owned the card rights?
Wow! Lots of KISS scholars on here and that is good to see! This would have been a very cool card if it were actually issued. Topps would have done much better in the late 70s by issuing a KISS set compared to Moonraker (though I love the Moonraker cards). Would be curious to find out if KISS shopped the trading card license around or if Donruss approached them and they went with it.
Speaking of the Donruss cards, I met Peter Criss for the second time a few weeks back at the LA KISS Expo. He's a great guy and loves the fans. In any event, I asked him about the KISS Donruss cards. He said he remembers them and has a "ton" in his garage. He then said he is planning a charity auction in the near future and may sell them. That really piqued my interest as it could be a holy grail sealed case which I have never seen.

My only KISS story.
I had a friend when I was at Columbia U. who was in the group Desmond Child and Rouge (unfortunately a flop).
Diane was playing out at a club in Manhattan and invited me to the show. She introduced me to Desmond and then pointed to who was in the small crowd - John Lennon and Ringo - and Gene and Paul from KISS. This was 1976 and without their makeup? I had no idea who they were. They just looked like two guys sitting and waiting for the show to start. I wish I had asked to talk to them.
Side note - Desmond Child is a prolific song writer for a multitude of performers to include KISS, Bon Jovi, Cher etc. He was the co-writer to Martin's big hit La Vida Boca.
Here's a list of the songs he was involved with KISS:
KISS
"I Was Made For Lovin' You"
"I've Had Enough (Into the Fire)"
"Heaven's on Fire"
"Under the Gun"
"King of the Mountain"
"Who Wants to Be Lonely"
"I'm Alive"
"Radar for Love"
"Uh! All Night"
"Bang Bang You"
"My Way"
"Reason to Live"
"You Love Me to Hate You"
"Let's Put The X In Sex"
"(You Make Me) Rock Hard"
"Hide Your Heart"
That is a very cool story! Desmond Child is a very well known and important person in the KISStory books as, you point out, he co-wrote a number of songs. Looking at the list above, "I Was Made For Loving You," "Heaven's on Fire" and "Hide Your Heart," were all good size hits for KISS. Shoot, even "Let's Put The X In Sex" received a ton of MTV airplay back when they still played videos. "I Was Made For Loving You" is actually the most spun KISS tune on Spotify and "Heaven's On Fire" is number three on the list.
I actually had forgotten he was involved in the "classic" KISS song of "Bang Bang You." Who can forget such lyrics as "I'm gonna bang, bang you! I'll shoot you down with my love gun, baby!" Of course, it was somewhat of an ode to the KISS classic of "Love Gun" so the cheese factor is not too strong....
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the read!

The KISS card is pretty cool, but...
Gene Simmons discovered Van Halen. He produced their first demo

I'm not a big fan of Kiss but these are cool cards. What's on the back?
Love the Van Halen card as well! I do wish these were both real; who ever did these photoshop jobs did a great job!
Matt
After seeing these two, I'm now dying to see SABBATH and ZEPPELIN rookie cards.
