That is very extreme doubling for a modern mint product. I'm surprised those slipped through.

I was surprised as well. I cannot find much information about them at all. Very little online. None graded with the top 2. I would have figured something like this would have been noticed n the word out. Ive got 4 n saw maybe another 3 online since 2010 so no clue how many or if even scarce.

The last of my British Doubled 2 pound coins arrived today. Now i have 9 total. You can see the doubling of the english aroubd the queens portrait and the initials under the portrait.

Anyone have an idea of the approx population of these coins? I purchased one of these on a recent business trip to London. There was a coin shoppe right down the street from my hotel :-) This is an unbelievable doubled die..How does this even happen in modern day mint operations?

no known population to my knowledge. I own 12 of them. I haven't seen too many others pop up. I submitted a discovery coin for them and then also a few at our host and NGC as well. Most average about AU with numerous bag marks. I was lucky to get a UNC one with very nice fields.

The mint with one of them in hand wouldn't even recognize it as a DDO and stated it was die chatted (machine doubling).

Thanks very much coffeyce....there's a coin shop I visit when I go to London twice a year. The next time I visit, I want to see if he can locate another one for me. These are pretty amazing, and seem like a genuine doubled die to me, not machine doubled?

yes they are genuine. I have no idea what the mint is thinking. From my understanding they have been hit with a lot of errors lately so its a black eye for them I guess. But it is kind of hard to refute the evidence. PCGS NGC and ICG have all agreed is a major DDO.
