Hey y'all! I'm new to this forum but I'm also on treasure net. I dug this 2 Reale at a colonial site down here in Charleston, SC and it is my first spanish silver! Just wondering how you all go about determining value of coins. I know you can take them and get them graded. Do you usually just look online or take the coin to a specialist. This coin in particular seems to be on the more rare side and on one site i did see that some Spanish silvers are more valuable than others and this one was listed as one of them. Wondering what you all thought about this coin (rarity, value, condition). I'm not really planning on selling it (or anything else I've dug) but it is nice to know. Thanks for looking and for any comments.

Nice little find. Just fyi there is a metal detectors forum here as well. Might be right up your alley. Welcome to the forum.
yeah i posted there and got no love. Hoping people can give me some info on here. Thanks
Value, about $40 - $50.
Keep in mind most dug coins will be considered problem coins and have environmental damage. Kind of like salvaged coins from shipwrecks.very cool pieces but hurts the value for collectors.
That's an amazing detector find - congrats!

NStef,
Very nice find. Most likely best to just hang on to it as a memento due to being a salvage piece (other forum members may know otherwise?). Best I ever dug up were worms!
I think you are might be in a better region for Slave Hire Badges? JK, where are you?

Funny you should say that b/c i legitimately dug a 1835 servant tag (partial) the same morning i dug the 2 Reale. It was a pretty awesome 3 hours of digging. Im in Charleston the site is just outside of Charleston.
The top part with "Charleston" was found about a year ago around 40 yards away. No way to tell if it came from the same tag or not but it looked like it might have
That is an amazing find! Congratulations. So much history (although trajic and sad) behind these badges that were issued to slaves that had marketable skills - as I understand.
Harlan Greene, et al published a wonderful book on the subject.
I'm sure you are aware of "many" of the past sales which took place...here is a link from Stack's:
