On modern coins, why does Lincoln face the other way?

Presidents Jefferson, Roosevelt, Washington and Kennedy all face left, yet Lincoln faces right.
Does anybody know why it worked out that way?

Lady liberty's dress slipped and he was the quickest one to wit.
I think that is just how it worked out, coincidentally. It was the first of the modern designs by far.

Lincoln faces right because the cent is adapted from Brenner's previous medals of Lincoln from the preceding two years, which are based on a photograph of him facing right.
The other presidents face left presumably for similar artistic considerations, each independent of decisions made on other denominations.
