Is this a nuclear bid gone bad or something else I'm not immediately picking up?

I think someone is buried big time.
The consigner is going to be happy.
probably a 1969/8 - low mintage anyway gets much lower
It's hard to tell from the image if it's a 9/8, RP 69 or normal date.
There might be a repunched ball of 9 North, but I'm not sure.
The repunched 69 examples on Heritage don't have as much displacement.
I guess 2 guys are collecting 3 cent silver varieties now? :-)
But it has a sticker...
I can't see anything indicating this is a variety from the images. In any event, would the overdate have a large premium in this low of a grade? In MS67 (the only grade listed in PCGS's price guide), the premium is small (25%).
Very tiny business strike mintage though and no doubt a challenging set to complete in VF20-XF45 PCGS-CAC. PCGS has only graded 8 coins in that range. This is a "unique" coin in that it's the only CAC'd specimen under a grade of AU58. Maybe someone saw that as "significant?" CAC has stickered a lone 1869/8....the MS67.
cool trime
at least 2 bidders felt it was worth near this amount...
