Question About Great Collections Auction Service

Does Great Collections auctions offer additional verbal descriptions of their consignments, or is it basically just high quality imaging?

If you call them up, they should help you with a further description. Last time I had a question about a mark on a MS67 Barber half, they took a close up look for me and responded within a day. I had last seen the coin about 10 yrs earlier and couldn't exactly recall how significant that hit was. You can email them as well. Some people probably review their coins in person. They might be able to put you in touch with one of them. I used to review Teletrade Auctions in NYCity whenever I was there. Though, you'd might lose any return priv using such an "agent."

Not online. But as RR said---you must call them.

I've emailed a question about something I saw on a coin and they responded with an accurate description. Timely as well.

Call em, there more than happy to discuss a potential coin with you. Ian is about a straight shooter of anybody I know in the coin business. Friend of mine before he passed, thought the same , did a lot of business with them.
I personally wouldn't bother them about a couple of hundred bucks, but significant item is well worth the call.
I noticed last week, that on some occasions, there is a little more description in the listings than just a pic on a larger ticket item or two.

  • Thanks. As a follow-up: can a consignor expect to get the best prices for their higher end material just on the basis of photos?

You can click on any coin and hit "ask a question". The answers are very prompt and the majority if not all of the time (at least for me) Ian responds personally. Ian is a very standup guy and always willing to talk with you. Chat him up at one of the coin shows GC attends and you will find he is very helpful and friendly no matter if you are new to the hobby or a seasoned collector.
    Cheers!

  • Thanks for all the help!

I prefer HA's listing method, lots of technical information and descriptions on the nice high end coins.

And you may also put in your own description.

Possibly. Though the coin would likely need to be stickered and with very strong eye appeal....ideally PCGS CAC for a fresh older coin just returning to the market (at least fresh for GC). Their bidders do seem to jump very PQ coins. And they do bid strong based on nice photos from what I've seen.
