What have been your results crossing over from BVG to PSA?

I am thinking of sending in a BVG 7.5 of a 63 Rose Rookie. I will not crack it out. I wanted to know when I send it in should I put minimum grade of 7.5 or 7 if I am willing to take that? I guess my real question is if I do put in minimum grade of 7 are the graders objective enough to grade it a 7.5 or more? Thanks for your expertise.

My results have been -1 to -3 other than one that got the same grade, all cracked before submission.

Your best chance is to crack it out and resubmit but since you have ruled that out I would put minimum grade of 7 if you would be happy with that. It should not change how the grader determines its overall grade. I would say your chances of a 7.5 are slim but if it is a great looking card then it could happen. Post a pict. and I am sure you will get a lot of opinions. Good luck.

In my opinion if it is old BVG with subgrades it should cross (but may not). They Have become much more lenient over the last few years.

  • Have not tried BVG. BGS has been in the high 90% though

Yes. Make sure the bgs 9.5 has no sub-grades lower then 9.5

Has anyone had success cracking OR crossing over PSA to BGS? I would think some PSA 9's would have a shot at 9.5, yes? Or is BGS just as bias without cracking?

I cracked out a 7.5 86 Jordan and a 6.5 79-80 OPC Gretzky, came back a PSA 6 and 5 respectively. Thinking about sending them back back to BGS and tell them the story. Sound familiar?

Agreed on BGS, pretty high success rate. BVG is just a shade better than BCCG, IMHO.

I sent in several bgs cards each with 2 x 9.5s and 2 x 10s. All came back min grade as they did not make the cut of a pas 10. No crack outs...i was risk averse. No luck i guess. Congrats to those who experience success.

I had very good luck with the old BVG graded cards that I sent in 15-16 years ago but the cards were cracked out before sending them to PSA. I had a few where the centering grade made the overall grade lower than I was happy with. The biggest grade jump was a BVG 4.5 1956 Mantle that came back a PSA 7. I had a couple others that came back 1 or 1.5 higher. I don't know what would happen if the same cards were sent in now.

  • I just sent in a 20 card sub, with what I though were 9.5's in PSA 9 holders. I didn't wand to take a chance and damage the cards while cracking them out. Of the 14 not a single card crossed to 9.5, I also had in the same sub three PSA 9 Russell Wilson tall boy RC's that I did crack out and all came back 9.5. I also cracked out two 86 Fleer BSK SGC 8 and SGC 8.5, they came back 8.5 and 9.
