Signed Orioles 2011 "Game 162" Scorecard Project Completed

Most of you will remember that final day of the 2011 season, and the memorable final events that took place that evening.

It was a weekday night and I almost didn't go because of the distance I live from Camden Yards (nearly 150 miles) but I had a rain check from earlier in the season and I didn't want it to go to waste, plus I knew it was going to be a long winter and wanted to catch some live baseball one last time.

This Red Sox/Orioles game had a little of everything (including a 86 minute rain delay) & entering the bottom of the 9th the Red Sox had a 4-3 lead & brought in their closer Jonathan Papelbon to close it out and to a clinch the A.L. East title. Pap easily struck out both Adam Jones & Mark Reynolds to start the inning, but the recently acquired Chris Davis doubled to right (pinch ran for by Kyle Hudson), Nolan Reimold doubled to center to tie the game. Up came lead off hitter Robert Andino who hit a sinking line drive to left that the Sox Carl Crawford tried to catch on his knees, but the ball trickled out of his glove and brought home Reimold with the game winning run (the cool thing was after the rain delay you could sit wherever you wanted and I luckily was sitting about 30 feet from Crawford and until the day I die will always remember that ball trickling to the ground).

What was left of the Orioles home crowd went wild, while the Red Sox fans who came to see them win the AL East
started walking to the exits knowing that their would be a one game playoff the next day, were stunned to see the center field Video Board going to Tampa and showing Evan Longoria hitting a walk off HR against the Yankees thus ending the Red Sox season..

I keep a scorecard at every game I attend and I decided to get all the key participants to sign it and last week at Orioles Fan Fest I was able to add Chris Davis to finish it off....My son tells me I should get Crawford & Papelbon to sign it too, but I'd have to think about that one.

Amazing project. You are a real fan! Love it.

I appreciate that...As an aside that game was also the last game that Terry Francona managed the Red Sox as well as Papelbon pitching for them...

On the Orioles side, it was the last game of Vlad Guerrero's famed MLB career & they just signed Robert Andino to a Minor League deal this week..

Cool project. I used to keep score all the time at games, now I only do it once or twice a season. I like seeing how others do it. Keeping score is a lost art, please teach your son how to do it if he doesn't know already!

Kind of ironic you mention my son because I did indeed teach him how to keep score at the Orioles games we attended (we'd each take a team and pass the scorecard back & forth) and now he is one of the Official Scorers for the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles Class A)

Awesome! I tried to get a position as assistant score keeper in college with the Brewers, even sent in some copies of scorecards I'd done. No response.
