He is currently doing imaging on my beloved Anglo-Saxon collection, and he sent me this sample for my feedback. Needless to say, I am beyond pleased with his work. (Yes, I told him the reverse is upside down.)

Thanks, Todd (@blu62vette)!

    Beautiful images of stellar coins.

One tiny suggestion: I would find it helpful (as a non-collector of this type) to have a date or date range somewhere in the text below the coin images to give me a reference point to the time of the reign. Wikipedia and Google clear this up, but as a stand alone presentation image, I would find a date helpful.

Thanks, Brandon, for the suggestion. Others have also said the same in private. To be honest, I even played around with that approach, but I ran into one problem: my desire for consistency and aesthetics make it impossible for me to include too much information. For the earlier Anglo-Saxon pieces, they often have no known (or no certain) monarch or even region. Sometimes, we only estimate the date range of issue, and that can cover 3 or more monarchs. Then, with all the different ways I can do this, and no good superset of data, I choose the subset approach.

I'm displeased by my conundrum, but I am slightly ok with the situation because of two big factors: (1) the images still look great; and (2) largely the images are for me and I know the data. If I ever publish the images on my web site, I'll include supplemental information that I include on my custom tags.

When Todd finishes with my images, I am wondering what to do with them. One thought is to print high-res glossies and put them into a binder so I can force my wife to look at them when we're in bed.

The second idea is to put them onto a old iPad (or electronic picture display) and set it on my desk at home and just  .
