So this note made it into a local convenience store...

A senior at school where I work offered this to me the other day (a college kid spent it at a convenience store where he works). It does have a small margin tear upper right quarter fold but super interesting find.

A lot of kids wouldn't even recognize those old notes as money let alone spendable. I have worked a concession stand at my kid's high school and saw a kid spend an older small head $10 and comment that she didn't know if it was still "good". They just don't see these notes or have ever seen them.

Nice find! But I very much doubt that it has just been floating around in circulation for 80-some years. These finds are usually the result of an inheritance or sometimes a theft. They get spotted right away.

    Agree 100% with Greg.
The lifespan of a $5 is typically just over five years, so the OP’s note had a long nap somewhere.
