A couple of new additions in "buy the card and not the holder" division

For some reason the last two weeks I have picked up a few cards that were not on my primary buying list, but the condition, centering, eye appeal, and price especially for them was very appealing. A couple of them I had to check with a few fellow collectors to see if I was missing something on the card. Hope everyone enjoys them, and thanks for looking.

KC

1953 Mays - first ever SGC card and will sub it at the National in July. Love the image and hard card to find centered with a decent lower right corner.

1964 Aaron - not sure on who was grading this one, but love the card and the price - $115.

1956 Mantle - probably my favorite card and always looking for centered examples in all grades

1959 Mantle

Keith ... LOVE those cards ... especially the Mays. Any problems with the back? On the front, is it possible that the grass on the left of the card was touched by an eraser? And on the right, between his glove and the white border, is there a small horizontal indentation in the card? Whatever the answer, the card presents amazingly well for the grade. Great addition to your PC.

    STAY HEALTHY!

I agree with that .... I prefer PSA but do own a few SGC slabs. Certain issues look better in that slab, imo.

I think that Mays looks stellar in the black case. In fact as time allows, I intend to cross all my core "lifetime keeper" cards into those black cases-- just love that presentation.

Love the 53 Mays. I am in the market for one. Speaking of Willie added this 65 to my run recently and fits the bill of "buy the card not the holder".

Thanks for all of the nice comments. JB - sweet 65 Mays and love the centering and corners on that one.

As far as the 53 Mays Doug I will need to check it closely but think you are correct about the front and maybe an eraser. Love that type of card that presents much higher but has something difficult to spot that bring it down. Matt's Jordan rookie right now is the leader in the clubhouse. If I keep finding some more of these deals I could potentially sell some 8's and grab a bunch more 4's-7's. In some cases 5's and 6's are at 5-10% of a PSA 8. Sell a PSA 8 for say $6-8k and how many PSA 5's and 6's of Mays, Aaron, Mantle, Clemente....

Great Mays, I think that mark on the front is simply a scuff. Also looks like an indent maybe from a pen and paper on the right. It's the type of card that you can rotate in the light and see the issues that result in the grade, that disappear when not bouncing light off of it. It's a gem of a VG!

Very nice '51 Teddy ballgame, one I still need! Love your example!

As for PSA vs SGC, I'm always willing to take whichever card presents best as far as centering and overall appeal. Especially as most of what I'd go far tends to be mid grade, and would generally grade out the same at either company. If then possessing a strong desire to get it into a PSA slab, I'd then go about doing that.

Of course I still have a stack of raw cards to grade "someday" and have managed to not do so yet. So I am lazy in that regard.
