World Coins - Pricing Question

I've been checking eBay for Third Reich coins and it seems that the certified coins are priced fairly high. I'm starting to buy world coins. Is the Standard Catalog the best source for pricing information or should I be looking at auction results? I've heard that there can be a difference between catalog values and actual sales prices. Thanks for any information.

As a first step, go to NGC world coin price guide on their site. Look up the coin and date your interested in. If there is an auction record, there will be a symbol you can click on to see all the auction results for that particular coin.
If you look at eBay auctions then look at not just 'completed auctions' but the 'SOLD' ones. I would not use the Standard Catalog at all for prices--maybe relative prices for a given mintage/date of a single type but it can be way high or way low, or not account for a particular variety. The price guide at NGC is Krause driven so I agree with Elmhurst the best use is to use it's links for auction results. Also, use Heritage's archives etc. if the material that is sold there.
Pricing can be a challenge with world coins, sometimes trading is scarce and the certified populations are still in the growth stage and not a stable as US coins. I look at auction history and coinarchives.com. An understanding of pricing comes with experience. As the market matures, pricing becomes more about the quality of the coin and less about the grade on the holder.
