Collecting Dilemma

I have a collecting dilemma (a good dilemma to have in the grand scheme of things). I collect Star Wars 12 back carded figures and New York Yankee cards. Each month I throw some money in my card box to save up for a "big" card. Big meaning a PSA graded Mantle, DiMaggio, Gehrig or Ruth. So far I only need 2 more 1933 Goudey Ruths and 1 more 1933 Goudey Gehrig to have satisfied my collecting goals for them. I have got all 3 Playball Dimaggios so I am happy there. I have every Mickey Mantle (except for the 1952 Topps; out of my price range) so I am good there. I have saved up some money and can afford another 12 back Star Wars card now (I have 5 out of the 12 so far) or I can save up for 6-7 more months and get one of the Ruths or Gehrig. Do I get instant gratification and get the Star Wars figure now or continue saving for the Ruth or Gehrig? I flip flop each day.

i'd go for the big card and save up....thats always tougher to get and always more desirable on resale

Buy the bigger stuff first. Before they get even bigger.

    +1

40 years ago people were saying it was ridiculous to pay the numbers for a double print non-RC card...now those high grade 52 Mantles go for $1M+...Buy the big stuff when you can. You'll be happier in the long run.

The big card is what I was leaning to but each time I see the case of 12 back cards I get the urge. It is like walking by an opened bag of potato chips. My hope is get one of the Ruths.

You should pick up the 1952 topps mantle reprint in psa 9 or 10. And yes, go with baseball card over star wars.

I have the 1952 reprint set from the 80's and a the 52 reprint cards from Topps that was made in the late 90's after he died. Maybe one day I will find the 52 Topps but I am going to have a hard time explaining why I spent $10,000 on a card that looks like it was left outside for years. The problem is that I am a completist and have to get everything in a set or it will drive me nuts.
